Hi guys, I have what is potentially a very basic question here. I have moved upmarket from a 110 MoD Defender to a 300Tdi 130, however, none of them came with a radio. I have gone to great lengths to fit some speakers in the back but as it's such a loud vehicle you can't really hear them from the front so I thought I'd put some 130mm speakers where they would normally go if they were factory fitted. Unfortunately I cannot work out where this would be! On the driver's side I can see I would just make a big hole, add a spacer and add the speaker but I can't see how to do it on the passenger's side as the dash splits in to two (presumably to access the wiper motor?) and there is no obvious space large enough for a speaker.
Can anyone enlighten me as to where to place these blasted speakers?
Thanks!

I think they are 10cm speakers which is where your problem lies.

The speaker fits in the part that is removable to get to the wiper motor

Thanks for that James. I knew they were originally 10cm but I saw a 13cm upgrade kit on Mud Stuff so I thought I would go straight to that. I guess I will just try to squeeze it on the removable part then!

I put 13cm speakers in but had to use a spacer or the back of the speaker fowled the wiper motor.

Yep, I have the standard diameter speakers, but they are quite deep Alpine units (bigger electromagnet) and they have very little clearance from the wiper motor. I am not using a spacer - though I had to buy some universal covers for them (from Amazon I believe, about £6 - do the job nicely)

I plan to make my own spacer from MDF so hopefully that will work. Thanks for the information.
Sounds like a good location Lurch, but I have a double cab so I have had to put mine behind the rear seats and even amplified they are not loud enough above 40mph haha.

I am planning an install on my ex MOD defender. I have order two sets of spacers from Mudstuff, on their advice I am using two spaces to miss the wiper motor on the passenger size. On the drivers side I understand there is more space and I only need one. I was hoping to cut the holes with a hole saw, anyone know what size hole saw is needed to sink the speakers in as I need to get one ordered in ready for the job. I am fitting 40mm deep 100mm pioneer speakers. I am mounting the radio under the dash on the passenger side and will source a head unit with a remote. I am planning to fit a central seat and don't want to lose the current central light switch. So my head unit options were limited. Any advice appreciated.

I put in a pair of old school 200wat sony xplodes i found in the garage from my first car between the seats in my truck cab. and a set of 130 watt alpines in the dash hooked up to a VERY old school sony CDX headunit 4x45

not sure if the music is heard or felt... whole cab booms when its on. apparently it sounds funny when i come down the road - can hear it over the engine - although in the cab it just sounds normal !

I have 150mm dual-cone speakers in my ex-MOD 90.

O/S front is fitted in the normal place under the dash on a single spacer-ring.
N/S front is fitted in the wiper-cover with two spacer-rings.
Rears are fitted in the centre-bulkhead each with a single spacer-ring.

The N/S front may look like it sticks out a long way but it has never caused a problem and of course it doesn't stick out as far as the OE air-con would. Been like that since I fitted them in year 2K.

I think i might be tempted to put some speakers under my dashboard, but at the minute I have two speakers fixed behind the two seats on brackets fixed through the bolts that hold the roof to the back panel of the truck cab.

Like the storage in the back by the way Litch!
