I own a Freelander HSE 54 plate MK1 2.0 TD. I have an ongoing issue with my front nearside drive shaft and cv joint assembly. In a nutshell, something must be seizing and causing excessive heat that in turn melts the gaiter causing all of the grease lubricant inside to drip out further causing the whole assembly to seize, ripping apart the CV joint and stripping the thread on the drive shaft. Two separate "landrover specialists" have looked at this, normally resulting in replacing the whole driveshaft assembly only for the same thing to develop within 50/100 miles or less. I have got through 4 drive shafts now. The last one was a longer drive shaft than the one previously fitted as the specialist thought that the replacements may have been too short and that may be the problem, however it has made no difference. I called Bell Engineering as they are transmission specialists and even they don't appear to have a clue either. Any ideas anyone? Prior to this occurring I had had new tyres fitted to the front of the vehicle and the 2 central prop shaft bearings replaced. I am at the end of my tether.
