So now another small problem...

Used the car yesterday, no problems - went to get in it to go to work this morning, noticed a big wet patch under the car - not a good start. Turned on ignition key - check coolant level warning. Sure enough no coolant - filled up. Drove to work - engine temp stayed at normal - (approx 25 miles) turned off ignition - check coolant level warning again. Carefully opened the filler cap, and water bubbled out - so not empty...

Are there any common weak spots in the cooling system I should check first please?
TIA - Rich

If the coolant strength isn't enough ie 50% you will still get the warning saying .. check coolant level.. just remember its the red stuff not blue ... also I'd advise not putting anymore rad weld in the coolant system because if it has nowhere to go it'll just end up lining some water pipe or gallery and restricting the coolant flow causing premature failure and overheating .. potentially ;-)

Ar right do you happen to know the coolant capacity so I can top up with the correct amount if red coolant pls

Known weak point is the valley pan. Get underneath and look for water staining on the bell housing. I. Assuming it's a v8?. Oh and flush all that Rad weld crap out of your system.

Thanks mate. It's not leaking anymore. How do you flush the system?

Strike that. Still got a drip.. coming from what appears to the the middle of the underneath of the engine bay. What does seem strange is that when the engine is running there is no signs of drips. Only when the engine is not running. I can see that I am going to put my hands in my pocket....

I do like getting my hands mucky so I will take a look myself ... any pics to help me would be appreciated. Cheers

Also can anybody point me in the right direction (a link) to the correct coolant please? 2002 V8... thanks all.

Hi all...

Well the leak is back I'm thinking it's the pump as when you look into the engine bay you can see water spray on the block coming from the the direction of the pump. Plus it only leaks when the engine is running when it's off the leak stops.. Would this be sensible thinking?

replaced my water pump back in february, had exactly the same as you, couldn't really see where it was coming from until I removed all the clutter around it, even then it wasn't completely apparent.
A local independent LR specialist confirmed it was the pump and quoted me £500 ish to do it.
Decided to do it myself ( a real pig of a job), but managed it in the end. After I'd got it off, I wasn't totally convinced the pump itself was actually leaking as I couldn't see any sing of it in the expected place (around the pulley), but on closer examination, I think it was coming from behind the original metal gasket as I could see some discolouration under the gasket. decided to replace the pump anyway and the thermostat while I was there (we did in fact break the thermostat housing getting the fan undone!).
Cost me about £150 in parts and anti freeze (RED)

Yeah it's at the garage now being done. Confirmed as pump. Luckily I know the chap who owns the garage and he charges mates rates. Pump is £100 plus a couple of hours labour... Should be done later today.
