Just to finish this off. I got a motor from an old lock and the lock on the drivers side now works. So it was the motor! Still tying to track down a supplier.
My power source wasn't enough to turn the motor but I tested the "new" one on an old car battery and it whipped round nicely. So, takes a few amps of current to turn it!

i got fed up looking for the motors and bought 2 mgf latches from ebay for 30quid and disconnected the rf ariel, job done.

Ouch! £30 ain't cheap! You can get the whole RR actuator for that on Fleabay. In fact, I got a rear one and swapped the motor over for a quid (got lucky that day).
Well, I'm still waiting for the parcel to arrive from Canada but fingers crossed I'll have found a source!

There is a web posting on how to check the readings and resistance on door lock motors and connections. I Can't find it sorry, I think it is on the American site. Shows photos in colour and connections. Bear in mind there are two types of plug connection to door locks. Mine had two plugs (1995 p38 diesel. And their drivers door is our left) It worked for me, the contacts in the sensors went u/s. Replaced it and was all ok. It all came about when the door lock would not respond to the key code sequence. worth a look?

I've had the motors out a few times now! Replaced the drivers one and that did the trick. You can connect them (briefly) up to an old car battery and they should spin nicely - my passenger door one doesn't!
Mine's the '95 one too!

I have a very similar problem After only 2 days of ownership !!
The difference with me is that the Passenger Front door will not open
The button wont pop up even if you try it by hand Nor will it open if you pull the leaver
Can anyone please give me some advise on how I can open the door

I'm a new owner myself so far from an expert. Think you'd need confirmation from someone else but it sounds like it might be superlocked with a burnt out motor.
The lock is dead easy to get out. Download the RAVE manual and follow the instructions. Inside the lock actuator you'll see how it superlocks. Just click it across so everything engages and then put it back. The motor isn't soldered in on mine. It just clips in so you should be able to unclip it and test it with an old car battery.

Hi Grrr, my car is experiencing the same problem. Front doors do not respond to open/close with the key fob. Did you manage to find a solution to your trouble I could learn from?

You can use a long screwdriver and a big hammer and smash the lock or remove the rear door to give you access to the striker. Mask off the side of the door (I used duct tape) and use an angle grinder to cut through the outer part of the striker. Then with a new hacksaw blade, without the hacksaw, cut the inner part of the striker. Door open, and lock intact to replace the motor, and throw the small motor away(superlock). The motors do just plug in and are interchangeable. New striker were about £15.

Yes, fixed (more than once until I got my RF receiver changed) using old locks off Fleabay, either Range Rover (rear ones are cheaper) and MGF ones.
Found the Mabuchi motors but none with long enough shafts. Looks like they were a special done for Rover.

Same motor is used in the VW polo for sure, different end on the shaft though

MGF ones are cheap and just unclip like the Rangie ones. In fact, they're almost the same but not as complex so not as many switches on the bottom.
Once you get the RF sorted they stop burning out!
