Buying stolen landrover

If you have receipts for parts you can claim them back from previous owner.

Also take garage to court and claim back losses etc..

I'd arguing failure to show due diligence when buying vehicle, and selling an item that is not fit for purpose, if it's stolen it can't be registered, and so isn't fit for use..

I have misunderstood? The post earlier in the thread seemed to say the dvla don't worry about whether or not the vehicle is stolen as long as they have name and address to send fixed penalty notices to. Presumably the poster restoring the landy tnat turned out to be stolen had registered it with the dvla.

Stolen goods do no have good title and therefore cannot be sold with good title- CAB visit

Oh They'll issue a V5 but once it goes on the system Plod will come and take it So if you register it you'll lose it.

the registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner

In my case, it appears that a "friend" used the landy and they fell out. He broke the chassis and probably sold it for scrap. She did not believe him and registered it stolen. The garage bought it and I bought it. The garage has offered a full refund, however I'd like to find out if the "stolen" charge is changed or ownership is proved. If it does, I could get it back.
I have a feeling it going to get ugly and it's going to take a long time to resolve, if at all.

I did register it with the DVLA who then sent me a V5 and that triggered the visit from Plod. I have a V5 and a sales receipt.

The time it takes for a police investigation is long; at the moment I'm still waiting for the garage to be called by the police and it's 6 weeks since the land rover was impounded.

I've just bought a masai red '75 series 3 88' that requires some tlc but it has a year's MOT. I used checkmycar.com £10 and the result was clear and it's guaranteed for £10k.
I'll post some photos when she gets home. Looks like Heritage are offering the best insurance at the moment.
