Stolen Recovered Land Rover 90 immobilizer system

Hi all, I have just purchased my first defender a 2012 Land Rover defender that was stolen then recovered. I was able to start it with the screwdriver it came with. I have both the original alarm fobs and I have fitted a new ignition as the old one was smashed.
The immobilizer seemed to disabled when using just the screwdriver the AMR4897 coil receiver was just floating around loose.
When putting power to the car is it does not make a sound but the hazards do flash on the dash and the electric locks appear to have been disabled.

Today I tried starting it with the new ignition and the AMR4897 coil receiver back on the lock but the fobs were in my pocket and it would start for a second and die. Does anyone know roughly what I need to do to have the security system back up and running how it should. The AMR4897 coil confused me in that the car was starting with it off the barrel using just a screwdriver

You probably won't get advice about bypassing or re programming the factory immobiliser or alarm system on an open forum such as this one, particularly as a new member.

l would say your best bet with that Defender would be to take it to your local Land Rover specialist garage and ask them to fix it. It may be that it has to be connected to diagnostics.
 
As its not running I wanted to get it running enough to sort the MOT out and get her back on the road happy for anyone to message me if that would be better?

I am looking to get the immobiliser working really as its not safe having it with a battery in it when just a screwdriver could start it
 
With regards to what Lightning said Defender owners can be a bit reluctant to give out info related to stealing our vehicles.
You may well be a decent person looking for some help but then again you may not.
Lots of helpful people on here to help with other problems you might/will have in the future.

Thanks yes I know its a bit difficult having to ask about the security side of it, should anyone be able to help I am happy to show its mine in a message if that helps? looking to keep costs down repair wize at the moment
 
Did you buy it from a recovery auction? It's not normal for someone to sell a Defender along with a screwdriver to start it.

I hope you checked all the numbers match. lf so, then l would still get the ignition and immobiliser fixed at your local LR specialist, it's worth the expense to get the vehicle running.

Then, you can fix any other issues and there's plenty of great advice and knowledgeable people on here will help you out.
 
How about the registration number, not sure l would want to share the VIN number on a public forum.

To the O/P what's the registration number of the Defender. And can you post a couple of photos of the vehicle? No reason not to do that, it's not generally a secret.
And where did you buy it from?

You'll likely get more help if you provide more information.

I wouldn't give my vin number out.

Why not? You can walk up to any modern car and see a VIN number? (Don't worry I'm in the same boat would never give out my VIN either)

The truth is with this thread, a few of us know what you need to do.. However none of us are going to tell you. Not to be rude.

With the high amount of thefts of defenders, this topic isn't something that people will want public or to help random new members. I hope you can understand the context of it; New member joins; Asks about stolen immobilizer questions.

The advice I would give is to take it to a land rover specialist.

But hope you're genuine and welcome to the community.
