Hi,

Trying to free off a brake pipe union that connects to a rear flexi pipe, the male nut is a strange size, its about 10.4mm, so a 10mm spanner wont fit, and an 11mm brake spanner is too sloppy. The nut is clean, very little corrosion at all, so its not shrunk due to rust erosion or anything. Is there an imperial 'in between' size I should try?

Cheers,

Chris

Just done mine, put on +4" braided all round, and they were 11mm. A proper 'brake spanner' was crap, it bent, but a decent open-ended (Halfords pro) spanner worked a treat.

Trouble is I cant get a 10mm spanner on, unless I grind it open to as close to 10.4mm as I can get it.. and then its prone to slipping off despite being a tight fit.

11mm is way too sloppy.

Might have to resort to mole grips, but that usually ends up in a mess!

are you using a line spanner or regular spanner?

Isn't 9/16th closer to 14mm?! If all else fails I'll cut it off and replace the section, shame to do that though as the original steel line has already been replaced by a previous owner with a curpo nickel line.

A thread revival but it shows that I'm using the search button. :)

I attempted to change my rear hoses on my Vogue today (L322 2006 Facelift), but failed massively. I estimate the male flare nut to be circa 10.4mm or 10.5mm as my various 10mm spanners didn't come close and the 11mm flare wrenches just slipped.

Do any of you guys have a definitive answer to which bit of kit can remove these nuts?

Cheers all,

Andrew

On my Disco 2 it was 11mm, however had corroded down to something like 10.5mm! The only way to get them off was with an extremely tight molegrip and lots of Plusgas.

Stilsons work well if you can get them in.
