Brake disc replacement tools!

Stupid question time

Is this the socket i will need to take the brake discs of my hubs on a defender 300tdi or will a normal socket fit?

Second stupid question 52mm socket or is a box spanner fine?? for taking the hub nuts off?
Don't want to buy the wrong bloody bits before i even start or waste my money.

Normal one with multi edges if you know what I means

Brake discs or brake calipers? Either way a normal 12 point (bi-hex) socket will do.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they are 14mm

Thanks for the quick answers I know the one you mean I was going on an old thread about 19mm I will find out when I take it off just wanted to make sure i did not need another socket set but now I knows the ones I will have to buy a half decent set cheers all

disco to hub bolts are 14mm

Early 90/110 ones are most deffo 13mm done them yesterday Caliper bolts I mean

Disks may well be 14mm

in fact one caliper bolt was fubar and 1/2 inch was hammered on to undo it and replace it.

A box spanner may work - it's what it's designed for, but I never had any success with mine. I ended up getting a 52mm socket and it's far easier. Give it a go, but if you struggle, go for a socket. Also with a socket you can torque it up to the correct tightness

A box spanner and a thick screwdriver as a lever will do, but a proper socket is definitely better, if you've not got either then go for the socket.

I think some of the calliper mounting bolts are a bit strange in that although they are 8mm threads a 1/2" bihex seems to fit better.

they arent 8mm they are m12

Oops my mistake, this probably explains why they don't conform to the norm, 12mm bolts would normally have a 17mm AF head.

M12 is normally 19mm a/f, m10 is 17mm a/f

Doh I am having a particularly stupid day I just pick the spanner that fits

Cheer guys for all the advice Bi hex socket set and 52mm socket on the shopping list. I take it Ebay is the place for tools. Or any suggestions?? I cannot afford Snap-on!!!

I bought a box spanner and welded a bit of flat bar and an old socket to it so I could use a torque wrench on it. The price of 52mm deep sockets scared me off.

That's a good price, if I could have dropped on one at that price when I bought mine I would have got one rather than a box spanner.
