Good Afternoon guys,
I went on a journey today in the 2003 Td4 Auto Freelander, first time I have been on the motorway with it,
got to about 67-70 mph and it started to shake, steering mainly but a little through the body,
I pulled into a petrol station and inflated the tyres, rears were just a little low, pulled of up the road and although it was 85% better it was still there..

Pulled off from the motorway and saw a flicker from the dash (Battery Warning Light) very briefly on then off again,
then a few more times, pulled up at my destination and found the the battery was not secure, so it was moving around in the tray, fixed it down and checked the connections and all seemed OK..

Did my visit and returned to the Freelander, key in ignition and on starting all lights extinguished except the Battery one, this stayed on all the way home, wipers getting progressively slower & slower, about 4 miles from home the 3 Amigos came on, followed by the SRS then the parking brake warning light about 2 miles from home, and finally just around the last couple of corners the F4 came on..

Not worried about the vibration as I think its wheel & Tyre related,
but the rest I am hoping is either battery or alternator related,
I am guessing the alternator but not entirely sure,,
anyone please point me in the right direction..
Neal..

defo alternator get it changed has for the shaking just get your wheels balanced...

why dont you charge the battery whilst you are waiting to do the plug job :)
The car is parked some distance away form the house so
I have chosen not to take the battery off the car for the reason
that there are several things that need or might need to be reset
or re primed or whatever you call it,,
Like;
Rear Window
Stereo Code
Alarm issues (Possibly)

And possibly others I am not aware of,,
would rather take it for a nice long drive
once running, rather than spend time resetting things..

But thanks for the thought..;)

Finally got round to fitting the new plug today,
all went well despite a lack of space in the front of the engine bay,
plug all attached and neighbour gave me a jump start,,
ticking over perfectly with the battery light still illuminated???:(

Disconnected plug and the light went out??
Scratched a larger bald spot on top of my head,
decided to call the AA back to follow up on there previous call,

different bloke,,checked every thing then went to his van,
came out with a 4 ft metal pole and tapped the alternator,
amps were flying around the engine bay,,
then the alternator stopped again,
another tap and off it went again..

Yep you got it the bushes have worn to a point that they keep sticking,
Nothing to do with the bloody plug the other guy sent me on a chase for..

so I now have two choices,
get a 9 year old Alternator removed, rewound (I think that's the right term) and then refitted.
or just get a new one fitted..

Just happens to be one of the most expensive out there...

And as we have been without the car all over Christmas and new Year the
wife wants it back on the road ASAP..so its off to a garage to have a new one fitted..
I am now a poverty spec owner of a Freelander...

All fixed now and working great...bring on the snow...
