Chaps / Chapesses

I have a 2003 TD5 Disco, 111k, recent cylinder head gasket replaced and today the bloody thing lost loads of power wouldn't climb gradients with out dropping a gear then smoke started to billow out the back. I can also hear a rattle when accelerating. At speed the thing stopped smoking. When I stopped and lifted the bonnet there was a wisp of smoke coming of the top of the turbo where a linkage is - my gut feel on this is the turbo charger, due to the lack of power and that rattle, but not sure if this would cause the smoke. I bow to the intellect and wisdom on this site.

Hope you can help

Dave

It's about an hour job tops, buuuuuuut you need to check the bolt on the oil pump gear in the sump that takes a bloody age to do and also change all the oil and filter etc

Don't run it or it could run on and blo the engine up, also check the wastage regulator switch thin on the vac pipes from the inlet pipes and the turbo, that can be related to the failure of the turbo, at least it was on mine.

Look for my posts on this when mine went. The turbo was £580 new and then there was oil, sump gasket, filter and of course labour if your paying someone!!!

Hi - well I've changed the turbo - bolts came off a breeze, then I remembered the cylinder head gasket was done about two months ago so everything would have been loosened then.

However, its still billowing smoke out, like something from Dick Dasterdly in wacky races!!!! Is this a case of oil or whatever, sitting in the exhaust pipe and needs to be burnt off - it doesn't smoke when idling. Any ideas will be welcomed

Any one want an 03 TD5 Discovery?

Cheers

Dave

Yes, cleaned the intercooler, primed the turbo - got my local LR garage to have a look and the exhaust is full of oil!
So thats being replaced now!! Bloody thing -thinking of going back to BMW!! Unless someone talks me out of it!!!
