Hi. having looked through the Battery recommendations on the site, I think I'm going to get a Numax CXV 24 MF. My question is, if I turn off the alarm with my key fob, will the alarm go off as soon as I take the battery off ? When I say turn off, I just mean pressing the off button once.
I think it will. If so, can I connect some wires from the old battery leads to the new while in the process of swapping them over, so the alarm is still armed all the time so to speak. Or if I just change the batteries over as quickly as poss, and the alarm does go off, will I have to do some sort of re-setting once the new one is re-connnected, or will it automatically return to the previous state ?
Vehicle is 1996 Discovery 1 ( June ) with the two button fob.
Thanks in advance
Dave

to save the radio memory on customers cars i usualy connect a smoke alarm battery to the vehicle terminals while the main battery is off just make sure you take it straight off as you connect the new one or reconnect the original as the little battery dont like being over ridden
if it works with radio codes i cant see why it wouldnt work with an alarm

Hi Dave, changing over the main car battery is very simple on a 2 button Disco I:

Unlock the car with the remote and put the keys in the ignition to posi II;

Then undo the battery neg lead first then the pos lead. The alarm, if functioning correctly will not sound off.

Put the new charged battery in the car, attach the pos lead first then the neg lead and then lock the car using the remote and you're done.

PS I bought the same battery about 1 month ago and it needed charging for 2 days before it was fully up to spec.

After 14 years I doubt it the battery cell in the sounder is still active so just remove the battery and see if the sounder, sounds.
The alarm system doesn't activate when removing the vehicle battery connections (no indicators flashing) just the sounder if u have a functioning battery cell that is, reconnect the vehicle battery and it will stop..
Press the fobs lock button 4 time to resync the fob after fitting your new battery.

Well thanks fellas. I might try biglads suggestion first, as it looks like the most straightforward. I know the sounder battery is ok as it went off recently. You could've heard it three streets away, hence my original question. I was more worried about upsetting the neighbours if I couldn't have turned it straight off.
Thnx again.
Dave

Not quite the same thing, the sounder was then powered by the alarm system. The only way to test a sounder battery when installed in the vehicle is to disconnect the vehicles battery.

Oh yeah, see what you mean. Must have had a dim moment. I'll see if I can check the sounder battery / location at the same time I fit the new battery.
Thanks
