Auto gearbox overheat light

Got in my td5 es 2001 today drove about 500 yds and gearbox overheat light started flashing could not be hot as onlky drove 500yds got to a set of traffic lights went out then started flashing again drove about 400yds went out and stayed out. got in after shopping drove short distance light back on flickering any ideas?

Faulty tempreature sensor may be, it's located behind the grill in with the cooler pipe work I belive.

Time for a new sensor, not expensive and its fitted into the bottom of the box oil cooler behind the rad. Can be accessed through the plastic trim panel under the drivers wheel arch by the anti roll bar.

Hi Gazzab, i had the same problem recently & upon checking i found the loom up to the sensor on the front cooler pipe had been chaffing & was earthing out. It might be worth checking.
