I have a series 3 - which came with 235/75 - R15 tyres on some Modulars.
Now i think i have made my mind up and want to get my landy looking a bit more original.
So i took a tape measure to the 235's they are small in hight compared to a original tyre that came with it as a spare...

Can some one recommend With Budget in mind - some new rims & Tyres that look standard in design but a bit nicer to drive Radials????

Should i just be looking for a set of Tubless defenders as a starting point as they must be pennies???

thank you thank you

Forgot..... 50/50 road / off road

What budget are you looking for? Might be worth keeping an eye on ebay as some people go from standard wheels to modulars or alloys

keeping a look out on eBay but not 100% sure what i am looking at as some adverts are a bit vague...

Budget - <300 would ideally like to buy just the rims without tyre initially to spray them up first -- limestone obviously!

On a mission to smarten The landcover up for wedding day transport...

What like these?

Keep an eye out for General Grabber AT's AT2's or BFG all terrains which are all 50/50. Mine are very good off road but a bloody noisey on the road, still pretty good though

If you pick up a set of alloys such as this above, be warned that you will need to get the correct wheel nuts too as the alloys are of course thicker than the steel rims. If you are running s3 axles then the studs will be the same as a defender

A set of wheel nuts is relatively cheap off ebay, probably around £20

Is no one going to ask if it is an 88 or 109 ?

They would both look good on tubeless Defender rims and 750s

i am staying away from, alloys & 8 spoke designs, Wolf Type are a possibility,
Mine is a SWB 88 - i like the idea of trying the defender & 750's

My current set up is 15" modulars with 235's enduro runway type.
now the tyres drive really nice and i do like the look of a wider wheel.

I have been hunting on google and came across "Tyre Banding" is this a No,No has anyone any experience, i have found a company that specialise in this, there work looks really good, wondering what standard defender rims look like but Banded to 8" to allow something like a 235/85 - 16R

hmmm

I would not go bigger than 750 tyre. I run my 88 on 205s and have never got stuck. Some nice videos around of series pulling Range Rovers out of the mud due to silly wide tyre fittment.

to continue my dumb question on tyres.... local breakers yard has a Set of wolf rims.... how do i know if they are genuine not copy's and are all wolf rims equal or do i need to be carful before starting any haggling?
thinking of fitting 750,s or 205/85s

There's a world of tyre choices and its your preference. I run a S3 88" with 750's and I believe the tyre size is more proportional to the overall look of the vehicle, better traction as well. To be a bit of an anorak here, it was possible to order two tyre sizes from new. The way to tell is the four figure serial number on the bottom of the speedo dial. If it begins 15... then its designed to take a 750 tyre. If it begins 13...its the smaller tyre. If you have the latter, and fit 750's your speedo will be inaccurate by approx 5 mph (faster). You'll notice this affect going through speed warnings at what u think is 30 mph but it tells you your doing 35 mph. Not a problem, just something to be aware of.:)
