I parked my 2002 TD5 up 2 weeks ago ,,went to it yesterday battery dead flat, charged it up
put the keys in and all the lights come on but wont start,,,wacked the starter motor ,rocked it in gear that was hard on your own but wont start!!!!!!!!!
Held the key on but nothing
tried the key to lock the car but nothing happens ,,no light comes on on the key, went to shop change battery same??????????? ..he checked the key out on a machine and shows its dead ,
So would the key being flat stop the starter engaging???
getting new battery tomorrow should i tow it to start it or will i be wasting my time
I have never changed the key battery in 7 years and have no knowledge of these things

dont mix "key" with "fob(remote)" ... yes, if you opened with key not the fob the vehicle is immobilised(which means no crank) and only unlocking with the fob or inserting EKA code with the key will remobilise it
 
So as it was open not locked with the fob
I have always noticed that the red lights flash inside the car after a while so does it automatically alarm itself
 
You need to either use the fob to lock it and unlock, Which it appears does not work.

Or you need to enter the EKA code. Do you have it?

Yes it does. the immobiliser cuts in, you can watch it do it after you unlock the car and you ge tin, if you do not have the keys on you.

@discool l, I edited it whilst you were typing,

On A TD5 ( but having just read the OP again, is it a 2002 TD5 or a ???? Tdi?)

Anyway on a TD5 , the immobiliser will re arm itself if the key fob is not within range of the ignition coil.

It would be interesting to know if the OP's keyfob is original, and has the second yellow chip in or if it is a Rover keyfob without the second chip.

Does what? The immobiliser is the only passive part of the security system, the alarm is set with the fob/key.
Not 100% so... as you say the passive immobiliser has nothing to do with the lock command but the "main" immobiliser is part of the alarm(unless one or both are disabled)...immobiliser and passive immobiliser are two separate functions ...the gist in this discussion is that if the fob is dead the engine will not start as the fob must work together with the passive remobilisation exciter coil and roof receiver as to remobilise it even if the vehicle was not locked

Ok many thanks for replies. It seems I need a new key fob then. The key and the fob are all one. Original
Where would I get one ,, I don't live in the uk so is it a main dealer job

The key blade can be pulled out of the old fob and if in good condition fitted to the new fob case.

Not sure where you live, I do not know if these guys will do it for you.

If you get a key from somewhere else, it will require to have the car programmed to it.

You do misinterpret things sometimes, read my post again there's no mention of a "lock command" but alarm.

The Immobiliser isn't part of the alarm, do I need to say that in bold type? as you seen to do,
' Passive' is the method of setting the vehicle immobiliser some thing I'm familiar with.

My post wasn't in response to "gist" of this thread, I'm so tempted to say that in bold type, if you think that will help you.
Believe it or not, i do understand the operation of the disco two security system, and many other security systems for that matter, and with out having access to RAVE which seems to be your favourite read, going by the number of times you quote and cut and past it's pages.

By the way remobilising of the engine is no passive but active.

I dont interpret, i'm reading and there was your statement "the alarm is set with the fob/key" ... i'm wondering how is it set without a lock command? though english being my third language missinterpretation is not excluded and for any of it i apologise... the fact that i've read RAVE not once and with great attention should not be something to be triffled with, also i paste sections from it to share official info with everyone and prove that i'm not inventing or guessing things... i think i understand better than you the D2's security system as long as you say that "The Immobiliser isn't part of the alarm," (i bolded it for you) so if you understand it so well without even reading about how it was conceived by the builder go with dedicated tester into the BCU settings and when you reach "Alarm" prompt to Disabled... then leave a window open , lock(not superlock) with fob or key what ever you want, open the door through the window(as to simulate like somebody broke it) and try to start it.... then you'll realise that when you disabled the alarm the immobiliser is disabled as well cos it will start this way so think twice how well you know the D2's security system cos according to your statement(the bolded one) it should have been be immobilised if it was locked then unproperly unlocked.... i dont want to argue with you but dont get so aggressive if i'm trying to keep the information correct when i know a mistake was stated

P.S. ...in the general terminology used for D2 in official documents(not just RAVE, technical bulletins too) ALARM = SECURITY SYSTEM and the immobiliser is certainly part of it ... and i say again(consider it bolded :) ) the immobiliser and passive immobiliser are two separate functions

Hi The guy thats sorting out my key asked me if i had the 4 digit code????
where would i look for that could it be written down somewhere in the car
any help please
 
tried today to get one from my agent here in Bulgaria he said you have to contact a UK one
so i did Listers in Hereford after chatting to him
had to send copy of my License ,Bulgarian proof of identity and the Log book In Bulgarian but at first he said i would have to fly to the UK
as they dont take copies ,,i ask him if he had used the Internet this century !!!!!!!!!!!!!
