Are you positive you are going at the right bolts because they are captive which means to bodge it then you would have to force ably remove them from the cover - why would anyone do that!?

Get a mirror and torch and check - they are difficult to find first time.

I thought that was the case - well done for owning up ;-)

I suppose I should feel smug,but I don`t.

I also spent an hour with a torch and mirror thingy looking for the little screw that holds the fuel filter assembly on the inner wing(2001 model)
The "Mechanic" who had changed it last time had lost it,or could not be bothered.

Just to change the subject,I cut the old filter in half after the change ,and found it was very black with quite large bits in it .Anybody else done this and found similar.

Bits of what?

Very rare to get 'bits' in UK or any EU country's diesel.

Have had wasps and flies jam up the pipes in Albanian diesel, learnt to filter it through a pair of tights (cue tratter's with suitable double entendre's)

That only stopped the bigger bits and the filter needed changing half-way home!

In the UK we tend to neglect the fuel filter recommended mileage changes as our Western-European-Standard diesel is pretty clean.

I seem to remember a Tesco failure a couple of years back though.

S.

Bits of hard plastic about 2mm in size .Filter element was also black and gungy.
I have never changed one as bad.

Previous owner had changed both pumps in the past and I wonder if this was the result.Filter supposedly changed at the same time.

Lets put it this way,the fuel filter will be changed at the same time as the oil for the next few services.
