:doh:Recently my Freelander (2002 K25) was running sluggish with out a check engine light on. So i pulled the air filter out and saw it was nice and clean but then noticed my MAF sensor was looking quite dirty. So i went to a parts supplier around here and picked up some MAP/MAF sensor cleaner. and removed the MAF and saw the whole rubber hose was filthy and cleaned all the way to and including the throttle body. When i put it all back together it began running REAL rough (loud, sparatic idle etc.) so i purchased a new MAF sensor figuring i probably damaged it with the cleaner. Even after I had installed it the problem didnt go away even after I had cleared the OBD2 codes. BTW the code it keeps giving me is a dealer only type of code. If you look at a K25 freelander without the air box/cover on it, right after the MAF and before the throttle body, there is some sort of sensor near the 2 vaccuum lines that i had also cleaned with the Sensor cleaner that may have been damaged and needs replacing. I have looked up air temp (figuring thats what it was) and have found nothing. A. Does anyone know what this sensor is called and where i could find one? And B. is it possible that this thing is my problem?

P.s. The tip of the sensor (the cleaned part) is surrounding a blue Filament
Thanks again

I only read the first line or 2,.Spray WD39 liberally over engine comartment,if yev got a bit of diesel about,in a topped bottle splash on.It worked a treat on my petrol Alfa Romeo when I had to take it 2 towns away to get the tyres pumped.Today sometime I'll do similar to the running gear,a can of silicone spray, would be nice.
.It had bin parked upoutside the house sice october or november

Hi LanderFree,
Don't know the V6 lump but the piccy looks like an air temperature sensor.
Does it have two electrical terminals at the top?
You can do a check with an ohm meter, it will show a reading in the kilohms, if you warm it up (clean warm water won't hurt) it should change its resistance - if not it's defferably broke and needs replacing.
Cleaning with sensor cleaner should not have harmed it - the cleaner it is the faster it responds.
Had one of these 'go off' on my K Series (1.6L) and it gave me erratic running. It did not go bust only changed it's characteristics and so was lying to the ECU about the real air temperature - hence slow running problems and low MPG.
Mine was quite cheap so replaced it anyway as part of a multiple sensor swap out tracking down a few seemingly unrelated problems - that's when I found the cause of that particular problem (compared new with old).
Could be your way to go? :):)

Thanks a lot john i figured it was the air temp sensor but im not able to find one online. It is giving me 4ohms when i test it with the dvom, does that seem normal?
