Ok, so i know you all really don't like the freelander, but i like it. Well most of it.

The only thing i am really struggling with is the serious lack of performance from the 1.8l motor.

Is it possible to change the 1.8l to a V6 in 2000 freelander manual soft top.

While i'd not try this myself, if it is possible i would consider getting a mechanic to do it with a reconditioned engine.

I'd get rid of the car if i could find something that suits my lifestyle quite a well as this car.

I love the soft top and the fact that there is still boot space with the backseat in place. To this day i can't find something that has this functionality. Even the jeep wranglers don't have any space in the back.

Well here's hoping for a solution to performance with an engine change

Thanks in advance

There are a few other differences in the 1.8k to the v6, i think the chassis at the front is a few inches longer on the v6 and also the bumper design is different to fit the radiator.

The K series being an enthuiast engine has quite a few cheap modifications available for it. Depends how much you want to spend.

The cheapest mod is to get rid of the airbox and replace with a conical K&N right on the throttle body. You can also get stainless performance exhausts for the freelander, i've made my own custom one.

Another good upgrade is to fit the 52mm throttle body rather then the standard 48mm. The engine will be a lot more responsive from this alone.

There are other things you can do too, camshafts, vernier pulleys etc.

But before you do anything make sure you've a modified gasket, modified oil rail and the steel dowels.
