Before anyone says it, I've been all over the search and read a bunch of useful threads from DomEllis, Mr V & stuarth etc.

I've done the HG recently and with the aid of some K Seal am getting no smoke, the issue seems to be water circulation. I did a full bleed on refill but today after 15 miles or so today (going uphill) the temp started rising, pulled over and plenty of pressurised water in the header tank, but taking of the top bleed cap noticed it was very dry in there. Managed to fill over a litre directly into the thermostat housing, and the bypass is running freely back to the header tank.

I've ordered a new thermostat (and top hose for good measure) but am wondering if anything else could be blocked for such an extreme imbalance to occur.

For example the round plastic splitter with the one way valve under the header tank, can this be blown out if blocked or is it a case of replacement? Would this stop water getting back into the head?

Also, I'd not heard of the block drain under the manifolds before dipping into archives. Should I be draining through this as well to ensure it's all flowing well?

I've looked through the workshop manual, but can't see a diagram that shows core plugs, where do I find these in case water loss is from there?

Is it recommended to test water pump and look at rad condition behind the fan assembly as well?

Really want to get this sorted so advice welcome...

No, afraid not, on the Isle of Wight and nobody does this locally. I suspect the head has a small crack, it didn't smoke from cold but did when warm, K Seal seemed to sort this.

I'm also resigned to a new head but wanted to sort any other potential problems in case I just ended up blowing the new head as well...
