Want some advice really on what to look for...

I have a gardening business and tree felling. I have a defender 90 with 200tdi fitted. I have come to the conclusion that if ever my faithful 90 conks out in a way that it will be off the road for a week (being self employed that would hurt finances badly) i would be really stuck. So what i am thinking is that i need a second vehicle for back up as well as a comfortable one going away in, Currently i either go away in the 90 knackering my chunky mud tyres or my wifes Matiz which is not good for long journeys. I am thinking a discovery with a v8. The reasons for v8 are, for the heavy work and towing (and one day i might swap it into the 90), and cause i love v8's. I am not bothered about the fuel side of things cause its an occasional use vehicle. I want to spend about £1k, which is not much. So my questions are...
What engine version to buy? (gonna be a diso one at that price i should think)
I know about boot floors and general rust and sunroofs, but what else on a v8 is there to look for?

Cheers
Gary

Get a P38:) V8's are for nothing.

Hey bud,

I'm in the same game as you, do arb and landscaping.

Had a freelander, but although ok at towing, no bootspace to speak of. It got written off by an old lady about a month ago, so I've replaced with an m reg disco. Very very handy...amazing what you can fit in..I've had three ton bags with twigs INSIDE and one on the roof (sneaked past the guys at the tip..FREEBIE,). I'm looking at getting a roof rack and using with trailer for things like apple tree pruning/odd small jobs.

Although I'd say for you to think about a 300tdi as they become quite addictive to drive!! And v8's just guzzle! I'm starting to prefer driving it to my 110 V8! Nice easy drive with an auto box... ;)
