I have oil spraying all over the centre section of the front axle after a 20 mile rum. So far I have changed the vacuum pump and the water pump (as a pair) and it clearly wasn't either of those. Next most likely suspect is the plastic fuel pump cover in the timing cover. Apart from knowing where it is I know nothing else about it, e.g. how it seals in to the tc and possible reasons for failure.

Can anyone point me to a thread dealing with this or know anything relevant.

All assistance much appreciated.

Bob

Some info attached on pump removal.

Check the axle breather pipe, air con pipes etc, power steering system and area round the crankshaft pulley for leaks. Has the oil level in the axle and power steering bottle fallen?

Yes, I agree, it's always good to check the other fluids if you are at all uncertain but in this instance, it is engine oil that is leaking, not hypoid or ps fluid its just a question of identifying where it is coming from on the engine. It's biased to the passenger side and higher up, so pretty sure it's not the crank. I have now been sent some info on how to get to the fuel pump cover on another forum but sadly the coolant pump has to come off again. Do you know if there is a coolant drain point on the engine side, last time I pulled the bottom hose off it was totally unsuccessful in draining the pump/block?

Thanks very much for the screenshots that's the first time I've seen a full layout of the cooling arrangement. It's not that I'm too tight to buy a workshop manual just that the online offerings that I have seen haven't convinced me that they cover my 2.4 engine version. Strange I know and I need to persevere with that. If anyone has a link to a manual that definitely covers the 2.4 then that would be much appreciated.

Slight change of tack on the oil leak which is not continuous but seems to happen after each time that I experience a complete loss of power. The truck has never actually ground to a halt but I have to keep my foot in and change down the gears and eventually it picks up again but then might also recur. It has happened a lot in the last couple of years but only the last 2 occasions has it also sprayed out oil. Don't know when the fuel filter was last changed so going to change that next as it may be linked to the loss of power.

Haynes do one. And you can find the genuine JLR manual on cd for a couple of quid on flea bay (which is what the attachments in the earlier posts come from).
