Evening all

I have had a little search over the past few nights and haven't been able to come up with the answers i am looking for, was wondering if anyone has them.

I recently bought a denso 100 amp alternator as a replacement for my knackered standard unit and although i know it fits, i was wondering whether the original cables that came off the 65 amp alternator are up to the job?

Thanks for any help

Chris

No, they are rated for the 65A unit.

I replaced mine for the 100A unit a few years ago and ran a second cable alongside the existing one. Make sure it is rated for the job, in my case it was an identical alternator cable from another 300TDi engine-harness I had in the garage.

It will work, of course it will.

While running normally (headlights, heater, heated window etc etc) you will be within the original output and therefore no problems. If you are drawing full output from the alternator (and why fit one if you don't need the increased output?) then you will be exceeding the rating of the original cable causing voltage drop & overheating.

I will put it on my list if things to do,

I run 2 winches and use them hard not melted anything yet but I have 2 big battery's

thanks for the info litch, it will give me something to look into before i go fitting winches etc.

Of the 2 cables that plug into the back is it both that need replacing or just the bigger cable?

thanks
