200TDI Crank, No Start - Investigation Thread

Taken it out for a drive this morning. Cooling nicely, no new noises. Only issue is a slightly higher idle than before. Pretty sure that’s just a screw adjustment. I’ll take a look when I’m wearing my scruffs again.

Need to do something about this green wire which is holding on for dear life

Whilst I’m waiting for the charger to do its job this morning, I was matching up my fuel pipe routing compared to the video. I’ve drawn up a diagram which shows the flow. My fuel is starting into the lift pump rather than into the filter which doesn’t match, and I haven’t (yet) worked out how...

Lift pump has been changed but now I’ve no crank. Off to borrow a battery charger 🤞🏻

Both on the turn of the key and manually using the “pump arm”

Step 1, no “squib” from the lift pump. 👍👍

Cheers @miktdish - I know where all these parts are. I will take a look at this tomorrow or Saturday when I have a free morning. 🫡

Only thinking during the diagnosis process @miktdish rather than waiting on a part.

I am also confirmed to be getting a click on the solenoid when power is applied.

I've confirmed power is going to this. Any way to bypass it to rule it in or out of the tests?

Adding a thread here for a way to log progress and hopefully help others in future. My 91 Defender 200TDI (which I now have learned contains a Disco engine) is failing to start after I've replaced the steering shaft and radiator - doing the first job caused me to break the radiator for anyone...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Something in and around here @Anaconda ?

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Cheers. Learn something new about this bloody thing every day. Now need to work out why it won’t start after I’ve changed the radiator per the workshop manual. Turns over but won’t start. Air in fuel? Some wire come loose somewhere? 😣😣

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Fitting new radiator along with new hoses. My thinking was the blue ones give me a clue in future which ones have already been done 😂 However, a couple of the hoses don’t match. The set I’ve bought are definitely Defender hoses (according to the part #), and I’m now suspecting I have some...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Can this be done with wheels on the ground or do they need lifting?

More like the play is in the “box” that the steering shaft goes into near the front of the vehicle.

    Stuck Steering Shaft Bolts

Ended up using a combination of the angle grinder, cutting disk, lump hammer and crowbar to get the bloody thing out.
