Parabolic springs sagging on one side

Hi all i recently rebuilt my series 3 Land Rover Regular on a new chassis, this solved almost all problems in one go, but for one. She still leans on the drivers side by about 2 inches, this was traced to the rear right spring sitting lower than normal. After fitting a 1Ton LWB spring shackle...

    Chassis prep for galviniser's

Be careful when drifting the bushes out, I seriously distorted my chassis when I did it! it was quite rusted and twisted already, but I managed to distort it as much as 2cm, and crack the steel below it.

    ABS, how to achieve it?

I know this in not going to be popular, but the speed of traffic is becoming greater as the other vehicles in my area are now coming with ABS, 20 years after it became wide spread. and they no longer believe in stopping until its almost too late. So in order to save my series 3 from a head on...

    Series 3 Bar Grip Tyres?

I know my steering is not right because, well have a look at the thread in series "Recommission Chassis Rebuild = Steering Problems" https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/recommission-chassis-rebuild-steering-problems.294489/ In in terms of stopping I have a single line cv type breaks, which...

    Series 3 Bar Grip Tyres?

I am currently on 600r16 Westlake tyres with standard road tread, and I'm often steering like I'm in the 30s when in a strait line. And imposable for grip when stopping. so bar grips don't sound like a good idea? What about something like a Avon traction tire, but a lot cheaper, is there such a...

    SRS Air Bag lamp

"Get used to that lamp kid" Nothing wrong really. Under the drivers seat are some wires, these are connected some how to the SRS. By persistently playing around with these it will go away. The SRS will still function as usual but the sensor is not connected I believe. It is to do with moving the...

Series 3 Primer - small patches of bare metal

I agree, I haven't yet used a primer or lacquer without creating the dreaded "oil painting effect" except for Halfords heavy duty clear lacquer.

    Series 3 Bar Grip Tyres?

Hi there, I have always loved Willys Jeep bar grip tyres but does anyone know if these tires would be legal on a 1977 series 3 in the UK? I think they are the right size being 600x16. And I know they are poor at handling, but I am drawn to their design simplicity. There is a link below to the...

Series 3 Recommission Chassis Rebuild = Steering Problems

The wheels used to hit the chassis when the stops where removed, and still do when the linkages are removed. Last year I renewed the track rod ends between the relay and the wheel and the wheels no longer hit the stops on the right turn, even with much adjustment. But did not effect the driving...

Series 3 Recommission Chassis Rebuild = Steering Problems

I am almost finished with rebuilding a 1977 88" but my steering is playing up. When taking the car apart I did not remove the Pitman arm off of the steering box. But I did remove the relay and its two arms from the Chassis. Now that I am putting it back together in the same setup I have almost...

    Headlights not working

I just soldered the connections on the left headlight as the previous simply crumbled and wires badly corroded. Problem solved until a new headlight is needed then it will be done properly. other than that it is almost always a connection problem behind the grill.

A Problem that keeps Springing Back

I've found the problem, the left hand side of the chassis is longer than the right hand side by 1 cm between spring shackle mounting points. Any ideas how to solve this simply and cheaply. I can think of using a longer spring shackle on the right hand side to rise it up, may be a 1 tone shackle.

A Problem that keeps Springing Back

My Dad drove it to me at work one day, 15 miles by the time he got to me the spring had sunk, so yes it was sudden. what's more is that I measured axel to chassis height and no issue there, it sits precisely where the Haynes Manual suggests. there is nothing wrong with the chassis to make this...

A Problem that keeps Springing Back

Hi there I am shore you've heard this before but my 88'' 1977 landy is suffering from the landy lean, sinking on the drivers side front spring. They are 1200 mile new 'paddock' parabolic springs. after 600 miles the front drivers side spring gave way lowering that corner. with the car leaning by...

What tools do you never leave without on an outing with your series??

A Flat and cross head screwdriver, an adjustable spanner and a bungee. The spanner for the wheel hubs, the bungee for holding the tail gate chains and the exhaust when it fell off after it was in the garage. The screwdrivers are for the electrics and hose clips. I have only broken down once and...

    2.25 petrol starting issues

Sounds like a blocked jet in the carb and timing issues, but are the tappets set properly giving them a little play (5-10mm) might help with starting and will mean a definite timing issue (but don't keep running like this). My engine gained more power doing this and only when the timing chain...

    2.25 Petrol problems starting

Have you tried cleaning the Carb jets. Its a fine line between working and not with them. I had the same problem with a lawnmower and all it was, was a blocked jet.
