    new door hinges

Dont forget to order the rectangular plastic washer that sits between the hinge and the bulkhead. When you fit the new nuts / bolts - copperslip grease, makes it easy next time you need to take doors off.

    73 Landy

Gidday, looks like you've been busy with the stuff you've done so far! Where are you buying your parts from - importing from UK or paying top dollar over here?

    1962 2a 109

How did you manage to get the bumper looking so straight / good? It looks awsome! Mine was bent back in towards the wing on one side, I ended up putting some timber in the back of it then bashed it with a FBH, straightend it but didn't look as good as that one! lol

    Smoke

With it running, take each plug lead off in turn, listening whilst you do it, if the engine noise doesnt change when you take it off, this will confirm which cylinder is not firing. I had a similar problem, turned out to be a cracked valve.

    2a transmission fluid

If you don't know the history of the landy then it would probably be worth draining and re-filling. You'll get to see the state of the EP90 that comes out (hopefully no teeth in it!). Drain plugs on the bottom of each, and you'll see the filler plug half way up the side of the gear box /...

    steering seixed

I think it varies from landy to landy, due to tyre sizes, tyre pressures, the amounts of oil (or complete lack of) in the box & relay, how regularly the steering is adjusted etc etc. If you drive a pas car as well, the difference will be pretty big. Still, you'll not need to join a gym to get...

    chassis undercoat and paint

I used wattyl Kill rust as an undercoat, then POR15 chassis paint. The POR15 is great stuff, might be expensive, but so far its dealt with stones, mud and branches, and also the jet washer to clean the undersides regularly. Still as good as the day it was painted - over a year ago now. Once the...

    Misfire on restart

Hi, an overdrive will help with your fuel economy and also lower the revs (and also the engine noise) for the same speed. It does increase the speed, though it doesn't help your brakes at all! Would be good for your trip to Germany if you can find one.

    Tractor boys??

A big "town" unlike its neighbour "Norwich" - a big city! (Sorry - I'm originally from Norwich so couldn't resist an opportunity to run down Ipswich!)

    1968 Series 2A, In NZ

Those wire brushes or flappa wheels that fit on drills are good to use, as are the flappa disks you can now get for grinders. They are $10 for about 6 at Mitre 10. Make sure you spend the extra dollars on POR15 products to paint the chassis / firewall etc.

    Online Parts Suppliers

Hi, in NZ on trademe there is a seller in Dunedin, bj_autos1 who stocks most parts - just look for one of their auctions then ask a question about the parts you are after. Also in Akl there is landroverparts.co.nz, they have an online catalogue, and claim to have any spare you need (they don't...

    painting my chassis

Hi, I've just finished sorting my chassis, jet wash, drill brush wheel, steel wool, then degreaser. Lots of elbow grease, took me probably 20 hours to get the chassis ready for painting. Painted it with Watyl Rustkill (only had a little surface rust here and there) then painted it with Por15...

what fancy wheels fit a 1972 series 3

none taken, in NZ we are extremely limited in our choice of aftermarket bling for old Landies, Mangles are like hens teeth, never seen a FC here let alone spare wheels for one for sale, so the disco ones were the best bet. I still have my original wheels, they just need some restoration!

what fancy wheels fit a 1972 series 3

I've just put series 1 disco steelies on my 74 series 3, they were rusty, stripped them back, painted, then put some 245/75/r16 mud tyres on them, they seem to fit the landy well, look as good as the original wheels (with 235/85/r16), seem pretty wide without extending past the arches...
