New Owner - and a few questions.

    1. They aren't HID, so if you are used to that they will seem dimmer. 2. It's a bumper-off job on my facelift, assume it's the same on a pre-facelift. Time consuming, but not hard 3. Yes, the key fob has a chip in it for the immobiliser. You can get replacements (the Rover 75 is the same...

    dilemma

It always has TC (and HDC). Diff lock was an option on most cars, not at all available in the 2003 model year (although you can swap the transfer box for one that does have it). And yes, there is a separate key fob to lower the rear suspension. Raising is via a button in the cab, or...

    dilemma

You can tell it has ACE if there is a double reservoir under the bonnet, one side power steering, the other ACE

    dilemma

Air susp is only on the rear, and you need a special remote plip to lower it. Raising for off road is standard.

    dilemma

Mine doesn't have the diff lock, and is from the 18 month period when the transfer box didn't have the internals for it, so all I have is TC too. I like traction control and HDC, but I can see situations where having DL too would be a boon.

    dilemma

I get 18 out of mine, mostly long motorway journeys though. If it has ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement) then it is very stable around corners. I think it's the last "proper" Land Rover: beam axles, mechanical transfer lever, possibility of centre diff lock (not fitted as standard, and not...

    Discreet Winch Mount Facelift TD5

I fitted a discreet mount to my facelift. Installation was pretty much the same, except when I did mine I split the plastic from the metal on the bumper (two nuts either end, captive star bolt in the centre) which made manoeuvring the whole thing much easier as well as allowing the lower grill...

Roof bars that fit 2004 Disco 2

Thule 952 20cm rain gutter feet, with suitable length cross bars. I have a pair that I use with a roof box on my D2, and they are great. I have no roof bars at all on mine. If you have the short bars at the front, I'm sure Thule do cross bars to fit.

Slight starting issue on my 300tdi

Probably glow plugs. First attempt warms the engine a bit, second attempt fires. Fairly easy to check.

    BennehBoy's D2 adventure

Boost box problem? Just thinking out loud.

    BennehBoy's D2 adventure

Could the better flow be boosting pressure, and with the wastegate unchanged the ECU Is registering overboost? I'm probably wrong, since I don't have a turbocharged engine....

    MK 1 Landrover

About £500. The original Station Wagon was not a big seller, as it was rated as a car and so had Luxury Tax on it, bringing the price up to around £900. At least, that's what I remember from James Taylor's book on the history of the Land-Rover.

    Cd interchanger

AFAIK they are all manufacturer specific. I imagine you can get adapters though, or re-wire if you are good at reading the circuit diagram.

    auto gear box problem again.

I don't think the Snap-on does that. You need either of the diagnostics I mentioned, a Testbook system.

    auto gear box problem again.

Have you reset the driving parameters in the *CU using Hawkeye or Nanocom? It might have got confused by the malfunctioning auto 'box.

Is a series suitable as a first car?

My second car was a Series 2 109 (first was a Hillman Imp). Lovely times, learned how to handle a vehicle, how to do maintenance, that speed isn't everything, that a sound system is over-rated (as indeed, is hearing...). Can't advise on insurance, as I have no idea what chicken entrails the...

What was the last "proper" Landy?

If we are talking just the boxy one, I'd say the Ninety/OneTen models (i.e. just pre Defender). Sliding windows, lifting door handles, removable door tops. Once it got a model name it went all poncy :) If we are talking all Land Rover models, then Discovery 2 (since the boxy one was...

    Indicator going to fast

I would check the bulb housing to ensure it isn't floating.

    rear 6 & 7th seat probs

Be forceful when you move them from stored to clicked to the floor (give 'em a good bang). Failing that, reach under and pull the cable taut as you turn the lever.
