    Timing Belt Inspection

A good 3/4" bar with an extension pole that slides over said bar will shift the bolt fairly easily. I don't like the idea of flicking the starter, would rather be in control of things myself!

    300Tdi Sump replacement

Straight forward enough, did it on my mate's ramp. Got the sump from Bearmach, they were the cheapest at the time. Make sure you change the O-Ring seal on the pickup whilst the sump is off!

    Changes to MOT

A diesel won't require one for the MOT. Spoke to a tester yesterday who had just done a refresher course.

    Mot

Unfortunately the park switch is integral in the motor on the Discovery, unlike the defender where it can be replaced. So it's a new motor job unfortunately!! Cheers, Lew

    Mot

Ah right ok then cheers mate! Out of curiosity, is it testable under the new MOT rules?

    Mot

The MOT tester turned be away this morning because my wipers weren't parking (even though it's passed the last two MOTs like it!). So I've ordered the new motor, but have another query with regard to the reversing lights. Historically I know they weren't tested, but under the new MOT...

    Sump Plug Washer

Just to conclude this thread, the washer required for a 15mm sump plug is the aluminium type, part number ALU1403L. The 19mm plug will require the larger copper washer.

    Autobox Leak

I'm not too sure about the gaskets, although it's certainly a possibility! Out of curiosity, how many miles has it done? Also, you may want to look here: www.discovery2.co.uk / Gearbox Oil Cooler Pipes May give you a better idea of what to look for. Hope this helps, Lew

    Amateur radio/cb unit

Not a handheld, but for the car I'd recommend the Yaesu FT-1500M 2M unit. Had the rig for about 5 years now, and it's been absolutely fantastic. Built tough too so perfect for the rough and tumble of off road! Unless you were thinking of using 70cm?

How to Eliminate other Stuff Before Spending 100 Quid on a Tensioner?

I changed the bearing and it cured mine! Bit of a fiddly job, having a vice to clamp the tensioner while you work is really helpful!

I can understand that, I like to have everything working too lol definitely a replace job then!

    Cigar/Cigarette Lighter

Out of curiosity...why does it need replacing? If it's not working, have you checked the fuse?

    300 tdi engine knock!

No it's a bugger to get off! I made a puller with a big old spanner and some long bolts I had that had the correct thread....by faffing around using other methods you'll more than likely smack and damage your radiator. When you put the crank bolt back on, how tight did you do it?

    300 tdi engine knock!

Very good point actually, if the crank shaft pulley bolt isn't tight enough, the pulley can move about a bit, causing the woodruff key to wear away the little groove in the crank, hence allowing the pulley to move even more which puts the timing out. That would be my next port of call if the cam...
