The only issue I had with mine is one of my testers is a midget, he couldn't get the smoke meter head onto the exhaust so I had to get it on, no other issues with it though.

I just climb on the bonnet then onto the roof, although my lard arse does tend to dent the roof slightly!

Sounds more like the fluid level is bringing the light on, recheck it before you go anywhere and make sure you don't have any leaks.

If not you can work it out with a tape measure.

My d1 has no ecus at all admittedly it is a 200 with no sunroofs or remote central locking though.

Doesn't seem to make too much of a difference on a disco, would be massively lighter than a spare on the bonnet anyway! It's fitted using the standard mounts that you can buy off the shelf

Mines mounted on my bonnet, although it's on a disco I'm sure you could suss it out on a defender. Mines also a 60"

Yeah had seen that, don't mind paying a bit extra of it's not lining someone else's pocket! To be fair weren't the bearmach days there £25? Little worried about knobs bashing into mine if I'm honest, I don't mind the damage caused off roading on trees etc, but draw the line at a randomer...

It does seem a little steep to be honest, but the recovery vehicles etc have to be paid for somehow I suppose. I drove right round the winching area last year, didn't need to get the winch out once, although did get stuck following a random track through the trees that ended up nowhere.
