The white thing that isn't connected at one end is a filter, something to do with the turbo. It's meant to be like that. The rough running may be the fuel pressure sensor, but it could be something else. You may have to take it in and get the computer on it to really know.

Why do you need a foot pump as well? When you said CO2 did yo mean nitrogen? Kwik Fit and some other places offer nitrogen instead of air. Only time I have seen CO2 for tyres is cycles, using tiny little cylinders

You don't get it in first on level ground because the speed is less with no feet on the pedals than in reverse with not feet.
