    SRS light on p38

Yes my 2001 does this too. A wiggle of the yellow plug, or move the seat back and forth cures it.

    Crank pulley damper

I'll post up the conclusion to this problem. It was indeed the crank pulley that failed. The rubber damper was breaking up, debonding and rebonding with the heat. It was probably the cause of my engine shaking issues from months ago. I was advised not to get a spurious pulley, and got an...

    Coolant boiling in expansion tank

New expansion bottle cap cured this one for me, not on the RR though, but it was a Rover.

2002-2005 ZF5P24 Gearbox Oil Fluid Cooler and Components Change....

What a fantastic post.:) Giving me even more confidence that I could live with an L322. They are getting very cheap.

    Crank pulley damper

Well the Rangie is having the last laugh.:) Changed the tensioner, and idler pulley, things were pretty much the same. Although the bearing in the idler pulley was shot. Whilst, getting someone to turn the power steering, the steering pulley would stall. So it's a new steering pump at...

    Crank pulley damper

Okay update from my friend. The belt tensioner, has failed and is not keeping the belt tight, hence the warning lights smoke and heavy steering, guess it didn't like being disturbed. The original noises, were caused by the static idler pulley, the one near the alternator, the bearing...

    Crank pulley damper

Chaps. Firstly gotta apologise for the useless post. Was just fed up. Love my P38. Very busy in work at the moment. So my friend, who is a mech is going to fix this one for me. The power steering pump is where my money is. Hate to hand it to someone else, but there is nothing to be...

    Crank pulley damper

I post this a bit hacked off. After a late shift arrived home, power steering tight. alternator light intermittant. Opened the bonnet, cloud of smoke. I actually hate my P38 at this time. Closed the bonnet in disgust. Thinking of giving up. Plans for a hike up the mountains tommorrow, now...

    Crank pulley damper

Thanks for the replies Datatek, Moreirinha and Bix. The ansewer may have found me! Driving to work this morning at 70 MPH in lane 3 of the motorway, the charge light came up. Ah so it was the alternator on the way out. Then the steering seemed a little tight .Fan belt entered my mind, hmm...

    Crank pulley damper

Well it was due a new problem. At Idle, the auto, diesel P38 has started an awful rattle. Lift the revs and it goes away. It's like a heatshield type effect but much stronger. It seems to be coming from right behind the centre of the rad grill. When the engine is switched off there is...

    How many left ????

Well i almost never see another P38 over here ( Ireland ). The last one I saw gave me a wave. I feel very smug in my champagne motor, for lemonade money. though, my finger nails are black, and I work in an office.:p

    p38 tailgate button internal spring

Spring on mine was rusted away too. I used a square of yellow foam cut from a sponge, and pushed it into the silver button, when you put it back together it pushes against the top of the switch bit. Springs back and forewards perfectly.

P38 Diesel Starts revs up to 3000rpm then stalls

Could it be a fault in the crankshaft sensor. The one that reads the pins in the flywheel. Mine got disconnected, and that's sort of what it did.

    OBD2 Scanner on P38 & L322

Yep my 2001 diesel wouldn't talk to any of them I tried.

P38 car jerks over when reverse selected.

Brilliant info, Datatek and Saint. The spring was broken, in 3 pieces. But what a simple thing to dismantle and fix, I was expecting springs and levers to be removed. Two screws and a twist simples.:) A piece of yellow foam is now jammed into the top of the switch as a temporary repair...

What mileage is on your Range Rover L322 or RR Sport on?

Yes I think they look excellent. The expense bit might put me off for a while though.:D

What mileage is on your Range Rover L322 or RR Sport on?

I would Love an L322, and the experiences mentioned here don't seem too bad. The motor tax on them over here is criminal, but it's helping them depreciate like a rock. Are they as easy to work on as the P38? Some day hopefully.

P38 car jerks over when reverse selected.

That didn't take long. Went to open the back this morning. Tailgate button pushed in, and stayed in, the tailgate( top bit ) is not closing properly now Just had a quick look, how does the rear panel come off the gate(bottom part) ? There is probably a tailgate ECU the size of a shoebox...

P38 car jerks over when reverse selected.

The rough idle and jerking into gear which started all this, went away when I changed the ABS pump. I think what happened really, was I had put a bottle of STP injector cleaner in a full tank, which I forgot about. This was about half way run through, when I changed the pump. The car has...
