Probably the FIP is not back on correctly.Hi all,
After a fuel injection pump swap, my p38 started up a bit rough but good enough to drive. Lack of power was noticeable at a climb.
This morning, it starts right off but revs up to 3000 rpm then stalls. Is this a symptom of something known?
Best regards.

NO, timing is in fractions of a millimetre, also if the top has been off the FIP that needs to be back in exactly the right position. Can I rotate clockwise the FIP (retard it) and see what happens?
So, it's a replacement FIP? If so was it off a Range Rover? No FIP has been taken apart.
This fip was working last time it ran.
I, as always, followed installation procedure as per rave.
You have the dial gauge and other special tools required to re-time the FIP?This is my old FIP that was running on my old engine. Bought used engine with FIP.
Then if the timing is correct and the FIP is from a P38, it's time for diagnostics I'm afraid.Yes, I bought them when I overhauled the bought used engine.
