    Squeaky fan belt

Thanks Thomo. I take it that Dayco is the OEM then. Not a bad price for genuine as the Dayco ones I found for the 300tdi and V8 all came in at around £48.

    Squeaky fan belt

Having a similar problem myself and currently collecting parts. Got a genuine LR belt but don't fancy paying their prices for a tensioner. Can't seem to find a Dayco tensioner for a td5 though. Plenty for 300tdi's and D2 V8's. Anyone know if one is available for a td5 D2? If so, where from?

Glad that you finally have it sorted Ben. Now go out and play together!

Not a great start to owning a TD5

Same thing happened to me about a week after buying mine. Turns out the fuel gauge tells lies. Have also heard the one about engines "getting addicted" to easy-start - and from some good mechanics as well. But never been sure why it should happen - can't see the logic in it.

    Facelift Headlamp Security Brackets

Somewhere hereabouts should be 3 little drawings of security brackets for D2 facelift headlamps. A more detailed explanation about their fabrication is available on D2 Boys Club site in the technical section. That should keep some of you busy next sunday afternoon.

    td5 straight through pipe

M10 x 40 long (5-off) should do it. You will notice the performance improvement. I thought that this mod would just make the car sound as if it had more power, but it really does have more power. The extra boominess in the cab is not to everyones liking, so hang onto that original box for a few...

    decatted 51 plate D2 MOT

Wot Difflock just said. Plus, my 54 plate was definitely fitted with a cat at the factory. MOT stations now have to link with the VOSA server and this will tell them whether or not a cat was fitted at the factory. If it was, then the car must have one by law and should fail its MOT if a cat is...

I agree with the pressure test, but would have it checked for flatness before stampeding towards the skimming machine. Basically, I would say that if it needs skimming, it's not worth fitting.

I replaced my turbo hose clip with the jubilee type clip today and it does seem a lot better as it clamps the hose behind the lip on the turbo outlet (as it should do) instead of straddling the lip, which is what the wide clip did.

Not sure if putting a lock-nut on them will work as the female thread is sideways through a short length of round bar. I might try that, but I am still not convinced that the one on the turbo is sealing as it should - it just seems too wide for the amount of tube that is available for gripping onto.

    What colour help???

Matt black. Colour of the Gods. Try not to paint over windows or lights.

Regarding the fancy clips that Biglad asked about. I got a set from DPH when I got my hoses and they were £12. Nice, but I find that they need tightening up a bit every few weeks. To be honest, I am thinking of changing the one that fits onto the turbo back to a jubilee, as there is not a great...

New owner with a couple of questions

I get about 24-ish with mixed local driving (no motorways). On a motorway run I got 30 without any mods. Don't blank the egr, delete it completely - £28 from Paddock. Also might be a good idea to fit silicone turbo hoses at the same time as the originals de-laminate internally with age and you...

Hi Ben. Not sure if I've missed a page, but how is the suspected head problem? Not been by for some time as I need cloning at present. Hang on to the spring compressor as long as you need. The hoses look nice, but I would also recomend Gareth at DPH - very helpful bloke.

Try dropping the oil first, just to get an idea how much coolant is in it. Is oil level rising? Does it look milky? How about whipping the head off and checking that you didn't get a dodgy head gasket when you re-built? Rare but not unknown. Just a few thoughts before you lay out big wads on...

    New disco owner!

I would consider what other mods you want to do before the re-map. That way you only have to re-map once to get the best out of everything that's been done. Consider egr removal, de-cat if it is fitted with one (then find a friendly MOT Tester), centre silencer removal (not for everyone as...

Also the DPH intercooler hoses are half the price of the Roose ones. I have always found Gareth at DPH to be very helpful. They can also supply the wide clamps, but I am thinking of finding a thinner one (but stronger than a jubilee) for the connection to the turbo as the wide clamp doesn't...

    Egr

Be aware that on some hose kits, the one that goes into the turbo may need shortening. This is the case on kits from both Paddock and Derby Performance Hose. DPH do some rather nice wide stainless hose clips.
