Small diesel leak and poor low revs power

Update time: I love it when people who ask questions or seek advice put the end result on here. So I'd better do it too. I actually had two problems: The airflow meter was causing the loss of power. The leaking diesel was down to the fuel delivery connector. As I thought it was maybe the fuel...

Small diesel leak and poor low revs power

Thanks. Yes it makes sense to do the FPR and see if that improves the low down power characteristics, then look at other things if there's no improvement. I believe it is a pain to do, so everyone says on here. I think I might just bite the bullet and get a garage to do it.

Small diesel leak and poor low revs power

It's a Disco 2, 2004 vintage TD5. There's a small leak of diesel - I think from the offside sort of middle of the engine compartment. I've also got poor performance from the engine until the turbo kicking in. It's not so noticable on the level, but with a bit of a load on or uphill the torque is...

    Holed alloy wheel

There's always a selection of used Disco wheels for sale on ebay. Might be worth a look to see if there's one like yours within striking distance. May even come with a tyre!

    Td5 discovery

Five seaters don't have air suspension, the 7 seaters needed it for type approval purposes. But if you want to find a higher spec with springs at the rear, look around a bit. Many of the air suspension models by now have had springs fitted. When the air suspension fails, depending what the...

Disco 2 face lift ot not

Yep, the trim is black, not grey. Also the fuel filler flap release button was moved to the buttons near the door, not on the side of the clocks, no doubt because it's easier to reach when you have got out and forgot to push it.

    ACE reservoir Empty

Having had Disco 2's with and without ACE, the ACE ones do handle slightly better, but the standard anti-roll bar version is more than adequate. The age of most Disco 2's now mean that those darned ACE pipes and other components are bound to be in poor condition - if not already replaced. The...

Newbee (ish) with a towing socket question

Yep, there's certainly a plug to attach the black loom, located behind the upper rear offside light cluster. Having recently looked behind both light clusters following a recent dodgy light problem, I don't recall seeing a spare connector sadly.

    Discovery maintenance costs

They're all money pits. Maintenance costs are always high. I agree that you ned to put aside about a grand a year on top of normal running costs. Some years you get lucky, but save that year's grand because next year..... It's part of the appeal. :5btoetap05:

I think the only way is to get down and dirty and have a look. I guess you're right, it could be a wobbly exhaust.

    Shaky Knob

With a handle like "twice nightly" and a thread entitled "shaky knob" I guess you're a Carry On film fan. Yes, I'd check your mounts. Does the engine pull okay otherwise? Is it automatic, or manual? Does it do it only in gear or in neutral? Is it only when the engine idles, or does it do...

    Lost thread about INSURANCE

You think that's bad? I didn't think you could insure a pedal car for anywhere near that these days. Especially as all your NCB will no doubt be used on the Merc.

    Discovery safe to off road?

The chassis. It's the weak point on these beasts. If the welding is good, then there'll be no problem off road, but the real thing is that as time goes by, the rot will spread, meaning more welding until I guess it's eventually financially not viable to go on. So the options are to sell it...

    riddle me this...

I remember you used to be able to get sticky things to put on the rear windows as aftermarket extras to heat them, then have to run wires up to the front and stick a switch somewhere random on the dash. Those were the days if you bought a car it didn't often have a heated rear window, unless you...

    Td5 commercial

There is oodles of space inside them, but of course not as much as your Tranny. Only you will be able to tell if there's enough. The same with the lack of seats. Do you ever need more passenger space? The other thing to consider is, are you self-employed as a painter? At present you have 2...
