Cruise control vacuum hose - needs replacing!

i've also trimmed the ends of mine, several times, and it's at the point now where it's too short if I trim it again, so I've had to duct-tape it this time! I'm happy to buy more standard vacuum pipe, but someone (on here, I think) did suggest reinforced fuel pipe as a better alternative...

Cruise control vacuum hose - needs replacing!

Hello! Long time no see... been a bit busy with stuff! ...and no, I don't plan to start one hell of a conversation again! Anyway... my Disco 1 (1997) has cruise control which no longer works. The rubber hose is worn out, cracked and useless. Someone suggested reinforced fuel pipe as a...

    300TDi Squeeling belt 'Penny Trick'

well... I did the penny trick in Dec 2010, and it's now Nov 2012 (almost 2 years later) and my tensioner is now squeaking again! Should I insert two pennies, or buy a new tensioner??

I recently helped to tow out a motorhome from the mud-pit that was Hollowell Steam Rally! (The link takes you to the right moment in the video... not the very beginning :)) Hollowell Steam Rally & Heavy Horse Show 2012 - YouTube There's also a lot more footage of much heavier vehicles...

Alarm/imobiliser fob must be close to vehicle & needs a few clicks

My 1997 300Tdi Disco has a two-button alarm/imobiliser/central locking fob. It does not work from any distance away from the vehicle and must be held up close to the vehicle for it to work. Even then it occasionally needs 3 or 4 presses for it to do anything. With the driver's door open, for...

Cruise control struggling after 1 week of no driving

Right... it's fixed! I had checked the ends of the hoses and they looked fine. However, I cut the ends off anyway, and pushed them back on. I cut off all three ends on the T-piece and the end on the vacuum pump/solenoid. Went out for a test-drive and it works perfectly :-) Next time...

Cruise control struggling after 1 week of no driving

I do have Rave, and all I can find in it is the road test which shows whether it works correctly or not. I have already done the road test and know what works and what doesn't - it still doesn't tell me whether the pump is gone, vacuum hose is perished, etc, etc... It functions perfectly...

Cruise control struggling after 1 week of no driving

Well I already kinda "pushed in" the throttle diaphragm with the engine not running and it slowly pushed in as far as it should and when I let go, you could see that the spring was trying to push it back out again but the vacuum pressure was slowing it down. From being fully pushed in (by...

Cruise control struggling after 1 week of no driving

After my Disco 1 being parked up for a week, the cruise control now doesn't work too well. It does work, but can't seem to get the accelerator pedal further than half way down. Also, when I set it to a certain speed it kinda looses speed at first and then struggles to regain it. If it's...

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

Well I have no option, sadly. I had to drive to work this morning (6 miles), I will have to drive home later (6 miles), I must drive to an event and back again tomorrow (total 50 miles), and I must drive to another two events on Sunday (total 60 miles). I must then drive to work for 5 days next...

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

true. well, if it gets worse I will definitely take it back, but if it remains constant even after 200 miles of driving over the next week or two, surely it'll just wear out all the wheel bearings rather quickly...

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

Not an option - I have a job, sadly, so must be there on time! Next time I'll be able to take it to them is in 9 days time (next weekend). At events both days this weekend and work 9-5 Mon-Fri and garage in opposite direction to workplace! Well I've already driven 8-10 miles, hence noticing...

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

Right - i might try this next weekend actually as i'm going to be too busy this weekend (out at events both days). Would it be sensible to just drive it for a 200 miles, let's say, and just look at it if it's still getting hot after that many miles?

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

OK, i'm confused again... earlier you said this was the drive member, seen here, with 5 bolts holding it in place: As far as I understand, I cannot access the circlip without taking this off. You say, however, I cannot take this off without removing the circlip. Catch 22...

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

ha! that was a typo... I meant to say "should I not just drive it for........". Is it sensible to drive it as it is for a couple of hundred miles and if still hot, take it back to the garage? jamesmartin - So I need to jack up the car, undo the 5 bolts seen in the picture, remove the cover...

Brand new wheel bearings - hot after 8 miles at 60mph

OK, so I need to jack up the car, undo the 5 bolts seen in the picture, remove the cover, but leave the circlip etc... in place. I will then be able to see if it's greased or not. They're a good garage so I assume they will be greased otherwise I imagine the drive member would be red hot...
