Tomorrow this will be taken to prostrip to remove all the paint and any organic material. Once back it can be worked some more and I can then lead load the joint to stop any sinkage or filler cracking in the future. Then Tom can crack on with final filler and paint. Here is a rough mock up of...

Hello chaps a small update.... The puma bulkhead I have been using for mock up purposes is a RHD and I want to build as LHD so I have managed to source a LHD puma bulkhead. However it is in much worse condition than I first thought. Here is an idea of its condition and how it's been treated...

Been slack with taking photos. Offered up the manual flywheel to check everything was as it should be. Then I gave it a very light skim in the lathe to clean the surface. It was then bolted up with a good quality clutch and heavy duty bearing. Re visited the bulkhead fitting and had to re...

Disco 1 V8 Auto won't start after pulling a caravan.

Have you still got a heatshield between the starter and the downpipe? If not its likely that the starter is getting too hot and sticking until it cools down

The hydraulic lifters have been soaking in oil all night so they have gone in. The inlet manifold has been painted along with some of the ancillary parts, so they have now been fitted. Steering pump, pulleys and thermostat housing all painted I have ordered some more paint for doing the...

Lol, yes it's a water pump. And one of the very few things that is a blue box item, most stuff is Genuine or OEM.

Not a deal to report managed to get front cover painted.... Gone for a dove grey which am hoping it will tie in with the camper theme once built. Also the heads have been finished so picked them up from the engine centre this morning So the heads have also now been painted and fitted.

Well took a while to clean everything before painting but most stuff is etched ready for final flatting and coating tomorrow The only other item that was cleaned and fitted was the oil strainer...

Your right it's a standard aluminium one with Nylon ring gear. Full steel ones are available from the likes of real steel etc but as this engine is not for competition nor am I increasing the rev limit. The standard one should suffice.

Difference between 110 and 130 chassis

The front of the chassis is the same, the rear of the chassis is the same. The 130 has 17" extra wheel base. The 17" lengthen difference is from just behind the drivers seat to where the a frame cross member is.

Then on with all the new timing gear Hope to get the front cover painted on Monday after inspecting the oil pump. Then I am waiting on the heads coming back from the engine centre.

Grabbed an hour or so today. So set to cleaning pistons. At least you can read them now. Then out with the old rings and clean the rig gap with rig gap cleaning tool Then pistons can be fitted with the new big end bearings.

how much it this really worth?

Or you could convert it to LHD as long as its an original chassis with all matching numbers you could double your money in the US, Belgium, Holland or Germany.

Had a little time to do a few bits. Got a call from the engine centre to say the block is ready and the new cam bearings have been fitted. So first of all etch prime the block, a few coats of silver paint, a little bit of detailing for some contrast and then lacquered. Once this was dry, it...

Help and advice from the experts

It could also be a Perkins 4236 which is 3.86 litre version. I think they only have about 70bhp but have phenomenal pulling power. The downside is that they are pretty damn noisy as a rule and also are very very heavy compared to a TDi. But they are much more robust.

A little update. The V8 4.2 has now been fully stripped and has been sent off to the engine centre for machining. I have already collected the crank which is now 10thou undersized and polished ready to go. But I have not been able to find any engineering shops to perform the machining on...

The only issue I had with reference to the chassis being dipped was that they did not rotate it once it was lifted from the tank so I ended up with a rather large pool of galv setting on the side of the chassis in the bracket for the rear axle trailing arm mount.

LPG is pretty available throughout Europe when I have travelled before and is much cheaper. And then further afield petrol becomes cheaper too. With regards to space. I would have to fit an LPG bottle for cooking so instead will run from the main LPG fuel tank. So I will loose some space but...
