Defender 200tdi wont start; think its frozen!

Check the hoses to see if they are frozen If they are the best way I have found is to bit a fan heater in the engine bay but make sure it wont get wet and go bang. Only other way I can think if you cant do that is dissconnect your hoses and pour hot water everywhere you can Andy

    Cleaning 200TDI intercooler

The consensus in here seems to be that it is best to clean it out with petrol or thinners till it runs clean. You get oil build up from the engine breather pipes and this reduces the efficiency of the inter cooler. It is also a good opportunity to check to see if you have any leeks in the inter...

A big russian built tractor. Fastened a steel rope off my tirfor to the front bumper and pulled it backwards flipping it over and then pulling it up the side of the ravine. Unbelievably no broken glass and all the doors still open and close fine. The main damage was to the roof just above...

No friends and just one enemy - my son! This is what happens when he hits ice on a bridge. Fortunately he managed to get out before it went over. Took 2 hours to get it lifted out and then turned over. New fuel, new oil and it was back usable. He spent 3 hours with a sledge hammer and it is...

passenger and drive lock issues- defender 90, 1991

Yep - the list on the landy just gets longer and longer. Have spent this year building the garage which is fantastic but not quite finished yet. It is high enough to fit the 110 in with roofrack and the jerry cans on top, wide enough and long enough that I have 2m on every side of the landy is...

passenger and drive lock issues- defender 90, 1991

Mine does the same thing on the drives door. Strip the door panel off and have a look. I am assuming it is down to bent or misaligned links. Dont think it is a big job just well down my list to do Andy

    no indicators

sounds like you have blown a fuse or two. Try checking them first and take it from there. Andy

    Heater - recurculation?

Like almost all other defenders my heater is crap. I was thinking about the fact it may be more effective to re-route the air intake to it to the cab rather than outside. Then atleast it is recurculating warmer air (almost just warmer) than constantly pulling cold air from outside. Has anyone...

Good advice on tuning my V8?

I would agree with above. A well tuned pair of su's can give a decent power gain. Also the 110 has a low compression heads os it may be wort changing them. A second hand engine out of an sd1 wouldgive you all the parts you need for little money. You might be better posting on the range rover...

Defender 110 pulling to 1 side when breaking

It is also worth bleeding the brakes. If you have air in the side it is pulling to this will reduce brake efficiency on that side. Cheers Andy

    Simmonites!

A quick story I live in Bulgaria I recently bought a 1989 110 with a 200tdi discovery engine in the UK. I mainly bought it for the engine etc as the TD in my ex military 110 had gone bang. As it turns out it is a lot better than I thought and have decided to run that and use my ex military for...

    where to go in europe

English 111 - I agree totally - I live in Bulgaria and have driven two land rovers over here. Fantastic country for off roading and verycheap / free for camping. Also 3 hours across the border and you hit Istanbul - now that is a fantastic end point for an overland adventure and as far in...

    Experience of the frozen north?

I live in Bulgaria where we ave 40 degrees in the summer and down to minus 20 in the winter. I have a built in 3kw petrol generator (they dont mind the cold so much) and have a kenlowe engine heater and electric fan heater in the cab. I decided on this set up as cheaper than going with diesel...

    Viscous fan

Just be careful if you get snow as a lot of slow hard work driving may cause the engine to overheat - especially if you get snow building up against the grill

    Pros and cons?

Taller tyres give you higher speeds for the same rpm and also have the capability of driving over larger objects. On the downside it raises your lower gears too so your low box is not as low for crawling. As long as you have enough power to make use of the "overdrive" effect I would generally...
