It's better the engine running on fresh air than a combination of fresh air and exhaust gasses. Also if yours is EU3 the butterfly set-up is quite a restriction so better off without it! :)

Sounds like dead short on alternator and can draw upto 100A but fuse is rated at 150 I think so won't blow. When you connect jump leads look for a big spark !
