Ok I found the 2 fuses in engine bay and one under steering wheel they are all good and used my multimeter = power to fuses is all good. Tomorrow I'll dismantle the dash board controls and see if the actual switch is getting power. I know the A/C worked about 6 months ago when I last used it as...

    Squeak squeak

Hi all. I have had a good close look and listen underneath the bonnet. It is the A/C compressor squealing. The belt seems tight and the pulley is not slipping must be the pulley bearings. Guess it's a new one.??? However I have noticed the A/C button does not illuminated when I press it and no...

    Rusty running board!?

Be very careful... I had the exact same issue with my running boards. Felt a little crumbly under foot when standing on them then one day while driving down road at 40mph the nearside one dropped off the front end and nearly flipped the disco. The brackets were rusted through luckily I wasn't...

    Squeak squeak

Disco 1 1996 3.9 V8 ES Hello all. this weeks new faults...... 1. annoying 'squeak squeak' from (I believe) one of the pullies on the belt. Obviously only when engine is running and gets faster with engine rpm increase. 2. Where is my coolant water going??? I seem to be topping up...

What to do with my exhaust???

With regard to the noise. My MOT tester said it wouldn't be an issue as it would have to be extreme loud for it to fail. He gave the example of most Harley Davidson motorcycles that are literally deafening as standard

    Another leak.

Cheers. The entire underside is covered in oil but I think that's because as the oil hits the wheel it's flinging it everywhere. Any ideas how to fix it then or replace the seal?

    Another leak.

1996 Discovery 1 ES 3.9 V8 Hello all. I have just worked out when it's called a 'discovery' because your always discovering a new leak, fault, hole, bit of rust etc Well today I noticed an oil leak that appears to be coming right out the front of the sump where the pulley/crank wheel comes out...

    Rough startup ??

So turned out the problem was ........ An underpowered battery. I left the disco standing for a few weeks and when I came back the battery had drained. I took the battery out and sat it on a charger for a couple of days soon as I put it back in and fired the beast Up it ticked over nice and...

    My new project

I'm happy in the knowledge now that I have found the best testers. I have spent the past 15 years trying to find a garage that doesn't see ££££ signs everytime I walk through the door. I know where my loyalty lies now

    My new project

Oh yes. I see what your saying. This is very true a lot of the wording is 'loosely' put so yes I suppose it is very easy to make assumptions on them as opposed to if it was clearly set out and defined. Having said that I know the reason they sometimes fail the boot floor is based on the rule of...

    My new project

I wondered how long it would be before someone said something..... When I was looking at the best way to do it I got mixed answers some said "it MUST be welded" some saying "I just pop riveted and it's been fine for years" When I cut out the old boot floor I took the disco to the tester and...

    My new project

The boot floor does not need to be welded. It can be bolted as my MOT tester said. The disco boot floor is not structural as long as the seat belt mounts are solid to chassis the boot floor could be made of ply wood if you really wanted

    My new project

Just be really careful when cutting out old floor I used an angle grinder but I didn't realise how close to the underside some of the lines were. I came within mm's of cutting various brake and fuel pipes.

    My new project

If you have a whole day un-interrupted then you could easily do it in a day. It took me a few days but that was because I was doing a few hours at a time. The only thing that gave me issues was the rear seatbelt mounts, the bolts had rusted solid so I had to drill them out and find some new ones.
