I've ran my 2000, W reg TD5 disco on bio, and sometimes just filtered WVO. No problems in the past 2 years apart from once in the cold when it was a bugger to start.

I am looking at connecting the diff lock on my year 2000 disco with a push pull cable (a bit like the choke on an old car). Does engaging the diff lock isolate the traction control system?

Not sure about the vibration. My steering box was leaking buckets (about 1/5 of the reservoir a week). I put some steering fluid in it with a 'seal swelling addetive, it seeps a little, but I hardly notice any loss of fluid. If yours is only leaking a little, I'd try some of that first :)

I've been running my D2 on and off biodiesel, and sometimes straight filtered used cooking oil. Mix of between 60-90% oil and 40-10% diesel for a good 20k miles. No problems so far :)

mastiff, just to confuse you a bit more, I have a 2000 Disco TD5 with 113K on the clock. Been using biodiesel, straight veg oil, and filtered used oil 50/50 with diesel for almost a year and I've had no problems whatsoever :)

Used veggie oil is made acidic through using it as a cooking oil. You need to neutralise the acid by mixing caustic soda with methanol, and mixing it with the oil at 65 deg C for about an hour and a half. Let it settle for a day, drain the crap of the bottom, and water washing...

Only 22 mpg, but I do have the added weight of a winch, winch bumper, tree sliders, and diff guards.

Ok, I guess that's a definite NO. How big can the metal particles be? Fuel is so expensive and at 22 mpg combined, its not doing my pocket any good :(
