Personnally I wouldn't use copper, it will corrode quite quickly with the chemicals and heat from the exhaust gas. I have done this with a piece of 1.5mm S/Steel plate, then filed the end of the connection on the EGR Valve down to allow for the blank. Have not done anything with the vacuum hose...

I did run 225, 70 16 Mud terrians on my 'R' reg EXDI but have not put them on the wheels for the TD4 yet.
