    Measuring battery drain

I'm pretty sure I did this, but then again it didn't work so maybe it was as simple as this!

    Measuring battery drain

Thanks and thanks! I'll give the serial connection another go tonight before I splash out, must have been doing something wrong.

    Measuring battery drain

No I didn't power up the ignition, but I couldn't lock the doors either, the car didn't seem to be getting any power . Had to EKA it afterwards.

    Measuring battery drain

If I don't need to worry about the bonnet being open that makes things simpler. I'll try again tonight with the meter in series and take a photo of what I'm doing, must be something stoopid!

    Measuring battery drain

Had it connected to common and the 10amp DC socket. Funny thing was the rover had no power with the multimeter connected.

    Measuring battery drain

Trying to track down battery drain, have the latest RF receiver and the alternator is kicking out plenty of power (and after a decent run the battery is nicely charged up again). 1) How can I measure the drain with an ordinary multimeter(draper 6079)? Tried connecting it in serial between the...

    1995 DSE, just bought one

I did mine this weekend and spent most of the time looking for my set of Torx bits! Some of the sump bolts are a bit fiddly to get at, but all in all not too bad.

    Replacing transmission fluid, lesson learned

The nice new transmission fluid is a lovely light red and quite difficult to spot against a nice shiny dip-stick. So after you've finished siphoning out the excess when you've over filled it why not take some time to stick the dip-stick in & out of the pot of excess to learn how to read it...

    Which diesel hotfix solution?

There seem to be two widely available (eg eBay!). They both claim to turn off after 15secs to prevent fuel wastage, is their any difference between them? Drag link & track rod ball joints, need replacement?

I actually had to google SWMBO, was guessing it stood for Short Wheelbase something! :) How about the video clips, do they look knackered or am I thinking of spending monies I don't need to?

Drag link & track rod ball joints, need replacement?

The steering damper needs replacing (bushes are torn and it looks in generally poor shape) and while inspecting it I noticed that both the drag link and track rod could be easily twisted with one hand. The ball joints didn't seem damaged but I though ball joints should be a lot stiffer...

    Checking VCU, is it OK?

You mean from http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f38/definitive-freelander-vcu-testing-thread-99163.html ? Well I didn't put any tape on but effectively did the same thing (first page). I didn't lash up the metre bar and weight arrangement, I think I'm proving that its sound by rotating it, it's...

    Checking VCU, is it OK?

Just had another go, neighbours must think I'm mental, and got it rotating smoothly. Where I think I was going wrong was in just grabbing at it and expecting it to turn. This time I just built up pressure on the breaker bar and maintained it, then after a few secs it started to go round slowly...

    Checking VCU, is it OK?

I can turn it a certain amount, say 20 degrees, and see the prop shaft rotating. But then it stiffens up and wants to bounce back. If I keep pushing I can keep it going round but it takes a lot of effort and it wants to spring back a bit when I release.

    Checking VCU, is it OK?

Changing the disc & pads I noticed some windup jacking up the rear wheels. Mentioned it on here and it was suggested I check the VCU. Jacked up one wheel in neutral and tried turning it. By hand I can rock the wheel back and forth and see the prop start turn. With a breaker bar I can rotate it...

    P38 buying advice

EAS seems to be pretty happy, left on high suspension overnight at the weekend and it was still up in the morning. I'm going to go round it and leak check the bags etc when I get chance, since picking it up I've only really had chance to do the brakes, busy again this weekend coming :( I do...

    P38 buying advice

I'll check that tonight, when I was trying to rotate the shafts to find the nipples I had both rear wheels up and one front one. I really had to shove the front one hard to get the shafts(and rear wheels) to turn, but they did turn. Not sure if this is testing the same thing though. Went out...
