Just took the plunge, cheap as chips P38, high in the miles but remarkably clean and almost everthing works. Took a chance on it.

Needs a few small jobs, I'll have plenty of questions. Will have a proper poke around it tmrw and take some decent pics.

Oh... and it's black... not navy or green like I initially thought!

Looks like you've got a nice one there (I know, looks can be deciving). First thing I did with mine, as it had 170k miles on the clock, was book it in for a full fluids and filters change. Cost £350, which wasn't too bad as £150 of that was for the gearbox oil filter. Other than a few teething problems you'd expect from a high mile vehicle using a lot of original parts, she is probably the second most reliable vehicle I've owned and the most reliable in the current family fleet.

I did lazy out and get a garage to do the work for me. The nature of my job means I rarely have time. But that is life.

I did mine this weekend and spent most of the time looking for my set of Torx bits!

Some of the sump bolts are a bit fiddly to get at, but all in all not too bad.

the g/box oil filter only takes 1/2 hour to change.:faint2:
Yes, the single filter does, but I got the whole thing sorted while I was able to still do my job. In hindsight I should've just booked a day off and gone at it, but heyho. Lesson learned.

Great looking p38, now your smitten by it you'll never be without it. Top job!!!

Cheers All, fluids and a service are on the list. Don't like the nudge bar so looking to get rid. 2 faultless runs, one 80 miles home from buying, and today in the sun... not a hint of over heating despite it being a scorcher of a day.

Happy bunny so far.

Just been out with a pen and a pad, listing the minor niggles. Nothing major, but the list is quite extensive, going to keep me very busy.

Trim piece, centre cubby front.

Worn gear & handbrake gaitors.

Aftermarket stereo surround untidy and wired to permament live.

Message centre - Lcd display dim on left hand side.

Message centre - Alarm fault

Drivers window - reset.

Sunroof blind - headlining sagging.

Interior door surrounds tatty.

Rear seat belt recievers, 2 not working correctly.

Rear number plate light bulb out.

Rear reverse light bulb out.

Interior centre light bulb out.

Load space light bulb out.

Glovebox and footwell light bulbs out.

Front demister vent trim piece misfitted.

Steering wheel controls - lettering transfers and leather worn.

Steering column surround - trim pieces around stalks missing.

Tailgate push button untidy.

Big list but nothing too major. Not bad for the best part of a quarter million miles. Hopefully tackle a couple of jobs a month and keep fingers crossed.
