I would agree with oxides and say more than likely a rear half shaft snapped,I've destroyed a few diffs in my series over the years and never had one go and be totally quiet after,they normaly go with a bang and then the teeth lock it up so it skips and jumps and makes a hell of a noise! Yes but a good sounding V8 comes at a price..............about 10 mpg! :eek:

Not straight forward but its not too hard,the engine fits in relatively easy with an adaptor plate but you need to cut the bulkhead to allow the wider V8 to fit in between and also need to make an exhaust as a defender or rangie one wont fit. It took me 2 days to do mine in a well kitted out garage.

Go for it,it's a 3 hour drive for us in the disco with the trailer on towing the series with the 2 kids in the back wanting to know "are we there yet "every 5 mins but that isn't putting me off at all :D

I used mine offroad in standard form for many years but as I got more confident I started doing more serious stuff so like spyderman I started changing things so I could take the series further,the best mod I did is the axle swap because It's now the same width as a 90 and the front shock mounts...

Because the tyres have a larger diameter it makes it higher geared,in theory you should get a higher top end speed if you have the power to get it there but will suffer in acceleration.

I had the rover p6 V8 in my series and the waterpump pulley was a good inch further back than the sd1 thats in it now,its so much further back that if you put a p6 pump on any other engine you need to remove the spacers from behind the alternator bracket or the belt won't line up. Also the pump...
