2.25 petrol only on 2 cylinders

All, I hope you can help. Just rebuild my engine and it has been running very well - done about 1000 miles in it. However, recently I used it in the morning with everything normal then moved it out of the garage in the afternoon only to be greated with a kind of intermitent whistling...

    Newbie

Chassis and bulkheads can rust. If you are handy with a MIG then the chassis is not so much of a concern as the bulk head. The latter can be quite fiddly to repair. I just keep mine well oiled and undersealed. Its lasted 50 years so they can't be that bad if you keep and eye on them. Both...

    Engine ident

Thought I had already sent this questions but doesn't appear to have gone through so here it goes again. I am thinking of entering the world of S1 ownership. The machine in question is a well knackered and needs a complete restoration. Can anyone tell me how I can tell the difference between...

    naffoking brakes !!!!

I had the same problem - took em all to bits and found that the crap quality shoes I was sent was the cause. As I turned the snail the peg on the shoes was bending and pulling its self out of the rivet hole. Had to take them all off and weld the lot up so the peg stayed straight. You might...

    Newbie come back

I had a massive dent in the front wing of my 2a. It was done in 1983 by the old bill - I still have the letter. Anyhow the front wing was nearly touching the wheel. I used a car jack to get most of it out then a hammer a dolly. Finished off with a bit of filler bob's your uncle. Same on the off...

Went to view a Series 3 but am now too scared to bid for it.

Mole grips - isn't that the correct name for undef%&kable wrench. It can de-f&%k anything. Realy its the only tool I need. Mole grips really are the greatest tool ever - apart from D Cameron.

    tappety noise after engine rebuild

I thought of the chain too but it seems to be coming from the top of the engine. Chain is also new.

    Brake lights not working...

Not sure about a series 3 but my 2a has the switch on the little brass cross junction mounted on the chassis. You will find it under the drivers footwell ontop of the chassis. Probably easier to find it if you get underneath. Did you check your earths??? do that first.

    tappety noise after engine rebuild

Yep, I'll have a look tonight. I think any issues will manifest themselves as scratches/ scoring.

    Britpart brake snail cams frustration

I don't buy blue boxed parts any more - had enough of their rubbish. Rather pay a bit more and get something that you don't have to replace a day later.

Possibly suicide is the only way out - Series 3 info request

Mines a petrol so a bit more refined - until I fill up. But I have done some mamoth drives in it. It was my only car for 5 years from student times until I got a job with a car. Done London to Munich and back twice, and a few years ago drove it over the Alps to Verona. The haripins required a...

There are always things that need doing on a series but all can be fixed with a bent coat hanger and bits you find at the side of the road. You can try britpart for parts but I tend to find the bits at the side of the road are better quality.

    tappety noise after engine rebuild

Thanks Mad git Big ends, mains, little ends, pistons are all new. Crank has been reground and I am pretty confident that all is well down there. I'll have a look anyway. Also the noise is not constant or regular it comes and goes. Its winding me RIGHT up. Just spent bundles on the machining...

    tappety noise after engine rebuild

All just put my engine back together and all is well until I take it up to about 2500 rpm. At that speed the engine makes an itermittent rattling sound. It sounds like the tappets go out of adjustment. I have set them now to 10 thou about 6 times and it keeps happening. I don't think its the...

    DIY stuck valve

Easy to see - just take the rocker cover off. Its only three nuts. Then turn the engine over on the starter or by hand and make sure everything moves as it should. Has the engine been standing some time then? I might be wrong but valves shouldn't stick if the motor has been running fine. If it...

Leaning landy to drivers side after Springs been changed

All, This seems to be a common problem - I have the same issue. The motor was a bit leany before I swapped the spings over but now is really bad. I did buy cheap paras so I am hoping its them. I have gone through the chassis measuring everything but it all seems to be more or less right +/-...
