I had a series 3 landy before and ive got the bug, and want another.

Ive seen a great one but bondy work has a fair few dents. mainly front and rear wing, I just wondered how easy these are to reaplce, is it a pop rivett job, or do they need welding?

any help appreciated.

What about beating them out? not as hard as it looks, with a bit of care..

You can get used wings on Ebay, but straight ones command £50 plus.

I thought they just bolted/rivetted on from memory.

Most of the series Landies I looked had battle scars (dents and scratches). Quite frankly, they were the least of my worries.

A handfull of bolts...all of which will probably shear off when you undo them.

It's easy enough to bash out the wing. Heat up with a torch - not too hot just hot enough to make oil smoke off the other side then tap out with a hammer. Download the workshop manual from the web, first part tells you about how to work Birmabright metal.

I've done one of mine - it still looks ****e but the headlight points in roughly the right direction now. With a bit of patience it would have been easy enough to get it nice.

I've seen on "A 4x4 is born" to put washing up liquid / soap on the panels and you'll know when it is the right temperature as the soap goes brown.

I had a massive dent in the front wing of my 2a. It was done in 1983 by the old bill - I still have the letter. Anyhow the front wing was nearly touching the wheel. I used a car jack to get most of it out then a hammer a dolly. Finished off with a bit of filler bob's your uncle. Same on the off side - hit a tree off roading and used the same technique.

I do have some very straight very good 1958 series 2 front wings in my loft but I am in germany so unless you want to come over an pick them up.......I#d also probaly want 50 quid each as they are like new.

Remember though I still think that Series Landys look their best with a few battle scars. Its good to see them getting restored now but don't go over the top. These motors are great work horses so chuck bricks and wood in the back with pride. If you don't like the paint work - get some good coaching paint and a roller and touch it all up.
