So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

You've moved the goal-posts a little to 88s, but the numbers still stack. You've reinforced my point. You're right, rough examples can be found, sure there's an iffy 88 out there for £1500-2000. Stuff of £3-5000 all day long. I saw a 'beyond it' Stagey for £2000 not long back. The conversion...

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

    >>Can’t see a Stage 1 being cheaper than a shoving a V8 in a Series.<< Here's why I started this thread. ^^Seems like a classic example of the myth running amok to me^^. How so? A decent rot-free leafer will cost you £6-8000. A decent rot-free Stagey will cost you £9-11000. Conversion cost to...

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

There it is, if when done, you can say "I'd do it again" then it's a winner. It's a very broad church. And with numerous solutions. If you're doing such things 'eyes-open', and you want to do this, it's your time, your money. Why on earth not? Don't get me wrong, I'm only doubting the glib...

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

To me that sounds as if it's a like-for-like job. My kind of sensible - if a swap is ever sensible? Where as 'Capo's' may well be sorted now, but would have been a real ordeal. But done right I'm sure 'tis brilliant. My fear? Even done well, what have got in the finish? A car with the 'wrong'...

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

Hallelujah, 'somebody' gets what I'm driving at. Only yesterday I was redoing a rivet-nut. Only it needs an 11mm drill. Biggest I had was 10mm. In the finish, a ten minute job had to stop, and (by the time I had travelled and bought the 'right' tool ) became 4-5 hours, and another £25. I...

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

Put a V8 in once, lashed-in. Engines are always the cheap bit. I'll deny it, but ask me straight, and it still cost me £1800-2000, and easily a month of weekends, maybe even longer all in. If I count the fettling to fine-tune even this lash-up, on and off, another month of weekends? I'm...

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

I've heard those that put Toyota lumps in, if that's your thing. Sorry if I'm not making this clear, i can type slower. These jobs never are quite as they appear. My question was how much does it really cost to do the typical swaps, all in. Time and money?

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

So why does the engine-swap myth persist? We all like an engine-swap don’t we? The idea goes that ‘next weekend’ you can ‘bung-in’ an engine, and all for £600. There are exceptions, but most of you with experience know the reality. Do it properly costs the fun-side of three times what you’d...

Series 3 ACR PowerPlus Camshaft Specs

There’s some muddling here. . Petrol or deseasel, the point was "Turners Engineering, those fine purveyors of rebuilt series engines do not recommend 'tweeked' cam shafts.". ACR's point was "OK, yes but why?" on the facts ACR shot Turner down, yet for reasons those that understood what ACR were...

15 inch rims for Series III LWB for softer (less harsh) ride

The trick is to stop the 'Big girl's blouse thing' and drive it. 25-28 psi (most over-inflate) , motorcycle chain spray into the springs and drive it. Most often leafers are left un-driven so the springs bind-up. Sometimes they break when you eventually move 'em. Drive greased springs 3-400...

Series 3 ACR PowerPlus Camshaft Specs

Yes, but under scrutiny, does this make sense? And if I recall that nugget was taken from a spat 15 odd years back that Turners had with their competitor ACR. Clearly Turner's had an axe to grind, and today, the 'said' nugget of wisdom can be seen for what it is. It's not stood well to history...

It's a Jag you've got there isn't it? Leather? Really... are you sure? Shirley, it'll look a tad too plush? Even debender owners aren't usually inclined to the like.

Series 3 Electrics: Series Wiring - What is a 'Clinch connector'?

Ah, thank you Blackburn, solved! The Series Landrover equiv. will be running rather more current, yet a 'clinch connector' is what I would call a bomb-tail connector. Alarm-engineers & telco blokes use 'em, but smaller. Along with the three position switch - Dim, Flicker and Off, another...

Series 3 Electrics: Series Wiring - What is a 'Clinch connector'?

Quote: Crimp connectors come in a box with a funny looking pair of pliers to well " CRIMP " the connectors. Oh dear god. I shall throw my 'clinching' pliers away today. I need to start 'crimping' ... I didn't want to 'clinch' anyways. I'm guessing it's a chassis earth fixing like a...

Well. I never did. Now I'm actually googling maps of Tasmania. The things I do. With Lucas, the patent holder for the short circuit, I get the idea. Tthe Prince of Darkness is at work. Thanks but, Ymortum I'm not finding. I do know Lucas were the first to market with self-dimming headlamps, and...

Series 3 Electrics: Series Wiring - What is a 'Clinch connector'?

Electrics: What is a 'Clinch connector'? See piccy. In all the series Land rover wiring diagrams you'll see, there's a symbol referred to a 'clinch connector'. Circle with a X thru' it. Google the term and all I get is more leafer-owners asking much the same question, and answers to now...

Yes, I think. Mine are from a Santana PS10, which is the Mk2 version. Hard to get these days, which is the real reason Heystee changed to LR parts. A good set-up though. In Mk2, pads come from Talbot Express Ducato van. Yours, if Mercedes are MB van, I have brochure for Mk1 Merc version somewhere
