I also have this problem on injectors 3 and 4 and will try replacing the sealing washers as I think some diesel is blowing past the injectors. How do you get the sealing washers out of the hole in the head or are they not too far down. Haven't removed any injectors yet!!

The sling can be replaced as I have had to do this. Early 300s around 94 have got 200 tdi seates in them which WILL NOT FIT later 300s as the mountings for the seat are totally different. Don't know if you can buy the sling so may be better to get a second hand seat.

The diode is in the rectifier which is in the back of the alternator

Battery light on is usually a sign of the alternator going and it may have a diode away in the rectifier unit which is allowing the battery to discharge slowly when the vehicle is switched off. Check your alternator out first of all.
