Hi All, Currently rebuild a Series 1 box and a question has come to mind - how is the pinion bearing (the big one in the case lubricated). When you look at the back of the bearing from the gearbox side there is a oil shield which I am guessing is to stop oil!! but how does oil lubricate it...

Hi Everyone, Has anyone actually done this?? The WSM suggests betting a correct diameter stick - putting some thick oil in the recess and hitting it - and it 'normally comes out' - I am guessing using hydraulics, not sure how though. Any tips??? And there are no holes behind it in the gearbox...

It was installed new out of the box in 2010 so not sure. current thinking is that maybe is was on the limit of rich at see level and the 1000 meter elevation increase has pushed it over the edge - to be continued
