The WSM suggests betting a correct diameter stick - putting some thick oil in the recess and hitting it - and it 'normally comes out' - I am guessing using hydraulics, not sure how though.

And there are no holes behind it in the gearbox case - probably best not to drill any new ones.

series 3s have 2 holes drilled in to the rear case to aid removal; with a punch, earlier boxes can have the two holes drilled

Interesting, trying not to drill the case, But having thought about this, If the hydraulic system is to work there must be a hole in the outer race to enable to oil/grease to do its thing. Can't see one in the race, maybe drill a hole (if possible) in the race back, to help hydraulic it out - thoughts?
