    Not very well

graham is she a manual or auto - don't know much about the manuals but for the auto's they often benefit from a fluid & filter change - I did mine earlier this year, dead easy, and the difference was immense if it's a manual, I'm sure someone more knowledable than me will be along shortly

    MPG on LPG

on mine (90 ltr tank) the most I've ever got in was 75ltr from empty. After a fill I get about 260 miles (mix of town/motorway & towing the caravan) which, according to my basic maths equates to about 16 mpg

    over heating at speed

odd's on it's the water pump. On the originals the impeller (plastic) is sort of bonded to the rotation shaft and, over time, the bond breaks mening that teh impeller isn;t turning as fast as it should, water doesn't flow as it should and she starts to overheat. there are 2 waterpumps, one is...

I did it! I found 1 and bought it!

sas nice looking truck - like you I looked at loads before taking the plunge - to be fair even some of the more tatty ones I looked at, with the help & advice on forums like this, wern't beyond saving. Had mine 15 months now and, apart from some minor niggles (that some wouldn't even...

    P38 sat nav

afternoon all, time for update. I removed the head unit from the boot and there is a GPS ariel wire going straight to it which I assume means it's a MK3, even tho' it's CD based and the disk & manual that came with the car refer to it as a CARIN II. I took it off, cleaned it, re-fitted it and...

    SAT NAV again!

sas don't worry too much about it - even when it works the mapping and way of inputting addresses (no post code option) makes it very old fashioned and even tho' mine does work I tend to use my Garmin instead. If it's not working (on start up all you get is a white screen) then the head unit...

Where to get an old V8 Defender Checked out in South Yorkshire?

mewsley I use Maltings off road in westwoodside, near Doncaster. They are indy LR specialists and claim to be able to look after any LR from a 1948 series 1 right up to an Evoque. The lads that work there all run landy's as well (mostly defenders but a couple of discoverys) Good honest garage...

Todays new prob. Running fine on petrol, cylinders down on LPG

odds on if it's multipoint then you probably have a problem with one or more of the lpg injectors. Service will sort it out, it'll either be a wiring/connector issue from the lpg loom to the injector or a blocked injector (when were the lpg filters last changed?). Doesn't sopund too serious (or...

    Tailgate button

right, got it sorted. had a go with the moddellers wire and found teh best thing to wrap it round was a 1/2" socket extension. Not wrapped too tight and bit about 5 coils, thinking i could cut off what I didn't need. After a bit of adjustment - result. I've not only repaired my original one...

    Tailgate button

cheers saint, we have one of those in the next village so will give it a go. Also, I noticed that Datatek had the same problem in 2011 (thank you search function) and he got round it by making one of of modellers piano wire so I've bought some of that as well and will be having a go - not sure...

    Tailgate button

mornin' all coming home yesterday the tailgate lock started cycling all by itself & unlocked the tailgate whilst I was driving. I took it to bits and the spring has disintegrated into about 8 parts. I've checked the usual suspects and a new one is about £50.00, even direct from LR - I've...

    wierd temp gauge event

well all seems well, picked up a trailer & a sierra cossie RS500 for a mate & towed from Cumbria to Doncaster with a mixture of town and motorway and she didnl;t miss a beat - temp came up to middle of scale and never flinched. All ready now to pick up caravan on friday & travel to isle of...

    wierd temp gauge event

mornin' all last Thursday whilst in traffic (moving at a steady 50ish) I noticed that the temp gauge went straight into the red and the red light came on. It stayed there for about 3-5 secs then went back to the middle (where it normally sits). I continued on and twice more, over approx 15...

    spark plug carbon build up

when I had mine converted to LPG, the installer (local LR Indy) changed the HT leads for magnacor and the plugs for iridium ones which, apparenlty, suit the lpg engine better. At last service (about 3 weeks ago) plugs all nice & clean

    GPS Lost

Strage thing this - normally the sat nav in my P38 works fine (considering it's age) but recently it's doing exactly the same thing, thinks I'm miles away from where I really am. It also no longer shosw the pixel moving between the satalite and the "world" at the top right hand corner of the...
