I had fun and games when I fitted new front side lights and indicators, despite wiring everything up correctly. It turned out to be duff female Lucas connectors which, when replaced, solved the issue.

I don't think the flange does move as you describe. I was hoping for an easy fix, but I suppose it's more likely to be the other things you mention.

There is play in the front diff. I have replaced front prop, front drive members and TB input shaft. There is no play in the rear half of the drive system, so I'm targeting the front! I know half shafts could be worn, as could the CV joints, as could the diff itself. I'm trying to eliminate...

Both props are now on. I fitted the rear one first. The car definitely drove better as a consequence, but the clack was still evident. I've just finished fitting the front prop and am about to head off to work. Fingers crossed the noise has gone, but I feel it may not have as there is play...
